Reliance 6 circut transfer switch,
June 12, 2009
By jmc99 from northeast pennsylvania
"This transfer switch was extremely easy to install for any one who understands basic electrical circuts. It includes everything needed to complete the installation except for the cable to connect the switch to the generator receptacle and the connectors for the cable. I would recommend useng # 8 awg cable for this connection, the maximun the switch can accomodate, as this will ensure getting optimum power from the generator while allowing just about any length cable run from the switch to the generator location. Just a reminder to everyone, the generator MUST be located outside and away form any opening into your home to avoid a carbon monoxide hazard."

Reliance Controls Transfer Switch Kit,

By RMSD from Freeland, WA
"I was nervous when I bought this, but it was the easiest thing in the world to install. I even had to replace the cord end with the 20 amp adapter that was included.
I should have installed one of these a long time ago! It is so simple and easy to use any one can do it. I had to use it recently and it worked like a charm.
Just start your generator plug it in and flip the switches for the circuts you want to run. It doesn't get any simpler than that.
I absolutly LOVE this product, and if you have a generator you will too. No more extention cords and switching things around, this product is a "MUST HAVE!""

"Excellent quality product for the price. Installed easily for me. I would advise a electrician if you have no or little electrical experience. Some towns require an electrician so check your codes."

Installation and Use of Transfer Switch,
August 11, 2008
"I have found the Reliance Transfer switch installation to be straight forward and as described in the installation guide. Its nice to know the product is as easy to install as it is in use. I have had to use the Transfer switch on two seperate occasions since installation and am glad I had it. With hurricane season well at hand it is a comfort to our family to know we will have a hand up and knowing our electric providers will be safer while restoring power to our home.I feel this system is a must for any home with a stand alone generator."

"I was very pleased with this product and the ease of installing it. I had to build a bracket for inside my wall as I recessed the swich and bought the accompanying face plate as well, but other than mounting the switch, it was a good installation."

A must have for the home back-up generator owner,

"It took ~2 hours to install, which included a little circuit reshuffling. This is not an appropriate first wiring project, and if you aren't comfortable (and competent) working in a LIVE panel then you should pay an electrician to hook it up.
That said, most people with home wiring experience will find this a straightforward, if somewhat tedious, project. Fine Homebuilding #128 has a good overview.
The transfer switch is mounted adjacent to your circuit panel. You should pay attention to the level that you mount it at, so that the armored cable sheath (shown in the above picture) can easily enter your load center (circuit panel) without excessive kinking or twisting.
You need to provide the wire to get from the outdoor receptacle to the transfer switch.
Straightforward wiring instructions are included in the kit. As mentioned before, the wiring is easy, you just need to know how to work in a circuit panel when the cover is off.
Operation is simple. Fire up the generator, plug it into the outdoor panel, go over to your transfer panel and throw each switch. Because these are three-position switches (generator/off/grid load) you don't "leak" power when switching, which makes this NEC compliant.
With this system, you can avoid:
1. Poisoning yourself and your family with carbon monoxide fumes from a generator run indoors (even in a garage!)
2. Electrocuting neighbors, line crews and anyone else that is not expecting power to be coming OUT of your house and into the grid (which is what happens when you plug your generator into a dryer outlet to power the house....)"

"Transfer switch was easy to install. Selecting either (4) 120V & (1) 220V or (6) 120V circuits was simple. This hard wired version provided a more compact installation adjacent to the circuit breaker panel and did not have bulky cords and plugs extending from the front. The only extra item to buy is the 30 Amp power line (your choice of length) to run between inlet box and transfer switch, which allows for a good deal of flexibility in locating a safe location for the generator to be placed. The 10' supplied 30 Amp power cord to run between generator and inlet box could have been longer, but the additional 20 AMP plug end provides adaptability to smaller generators."
