Hardworking Pump with a Quirk

"I bought this to pump muck from a pond. I also bought the 15' 3" suction hose. When I first started using it, I found it very hard to prime. I used a bucket to pour in water in the priming port while the pump was running. When the pump catches, you will get a shower from the running pump. Screw the plug in and away you go. It should be noted that the manual says DON'T leave the prime port open with the engine running. But this was the only way to prime the pump predictably. A garden hose with a valve fitting would be a good alternative if you have pressurized water available, but I did not.
Once started, this pump ran happily for 3 hours on a single fill of gasoline. No problems starting, provided the choke is on, even when warm.
The pump happily sucked through 1" chunks of lake debris and pumped them out through 100' of 3" PVC pipe.
