For anyone that has split wood by hand,
March 7, 2007

"This is a life saver I have split wood by hand for my intire life spending days spliting enough wood for the season. After using this I kick myself for wasting my time and energy for so many years. Now I can split enough for myself and my father in a single weekend. With 30 ton of pressure its powerful enough to split even the toughest seasoned wood with the greatest of ease."

One Beast of a Splitter,
November 18, 2009
By warmwinters

"Like most people I have been renting splitters for the last 8 + years and have always put off getting one of my own. Well when the local rental place went out of business and the only other place to rent one had two that were both broke I guess it was time to get off some cash and take the plunge. I did my research and looked around and finally settled on this one. A little more power than the 20 tons I was renting before but since it was on sale and I have about two tons of logs sitting in my driveway every year I knew I was going to need the extra punch now and again. If you are going to put this monster together yourself trust me when I say this you WILL need two people. The beam and ram is EXTREMELY heavy. Took about three hours to assemble. Upgraded the grade 5 bolts that hold the beam to the trailer (6 total) to grade 8 for piece of mind when towing. Filled it with oil and gas, gave one pull on the Honda and off she went!! Had a few minor leaks but nothing a wrench and some more muscle could control. VERY well balanced and easy to set up with just one person. So now I have this new shiny piece of equipment sitting in the yard and just growling away. What can this thing really do for me? I loaded the biggest, nastiest, knotted twisted pieces I had and man all I can say is why did I wait so long. Split every piece I threw at it and then some with no hesitation. 40" round 22" tall wet red oak, crotches, knots, you name it, this stout beefy machine just sneezed and laughed the whole way through. Love the fact the it has a log stripper at the end the ram so that when I do manage to wedge something on it I don't have to beat the log off with a maul. Very nice feature. Without a doubt a keeper and money well spent. Now if only I can get the wife to let me store it in the living room..."

Log Splitter,
August 20, 2009
By kjmn

"I have just received this product and must say first of all that the shipping was fast. I found the instrucions to be right on the mark with just a few exceptions. The wheel washers were not packed with the wheel, and there was no direction as to adjusting the idle down feature. With that said, it went togeather quickly --about 2hr. By all means have 2 people ( or a peice of equipment ) there when unloading from truck. The Honda engine is what you would expect one pull right out of the box and it started--make sure that you log splitter control valve is in neutral before starting. I started splitting about a half cord of knoted oak and maple and did not have any trouble. I think it would be safe to say that I will not be needing the return lable for this item--its a keeper"

Log Splitter,

"This is a GREAT machine. I have owned one for several years now and it is one of the best purchases I have ever made. The machine is very powerful, the engine starts easily (even in the cold) and I have never had any downtime. It is very economical on fuel....the idle control is a must-have feature and helps minimize fuel usage as well as extend engine life. I would buy another one and would recommend it to anyone."

"Works well and very well built. Funtions well in both verticle and horizontal positions. I have put three cords of large logs thru it with no problems.
A little more assembly required than I had anticipated, but good instructions and easy to do.
Buy the secondary set of splitting wings for a four-way split.

A back saver,

"Like most people i looked at them all, this northstar 30 ton with the idle control is by far a front runner. i also put a return filter on and i removed the front jack leg and put a trailer jack with a wheel on it, makes for moving around very easy. I split about 7 to 10 cords pr yr most times by myself so the idle control is very nice to have. This unit is very well built and im sure it will outlast me. As for the honda.....just one pull and your working. So far a great splitter."

Better than expected,
March 23, 2009
By electricdad

"After years of renting and borrowing, I finally broke down and purchased my own splitter. I reviewed many splitters and although I couldn't inspect this one personally I decided for the price I'd take a chance. It arrived in very sturdy packaging and I assembled it in only a few hours. I was pleased that all of the parts were there (with some left over's). I've now split about 3 full cord some of which was very twisted hard maple on only 2 gallons of gas. I'm pleased with the idle-back feature, ease of starting and overall performance. I suspect that all of my friends will want to borrow mine. By the way, when I read the reviews I noted a suggestion to install a return filter which i did. I also installed an hour meter which will help with service."

"I ourchased this last year adn the wings for splitting. I am very pleased. Cuts through almost every piece I have ever put into the cradle. Large pieces with large nots don't make it, but I think they would if I removed the wings (less pressure)."

a must have!,
January 18, 2009
By phocks

"This is one rugged machine. I decided on it because of the Honda GX engine, but I am impressed with the entire package. It is by far, built superior to any of the splitters I looked at locally. I did add a filter (part # 4020) to the return line just for peace of mind. I put the machine together in about two hours and it started on the second pull. It runs quiet and barely vibrates at all.The idle control is a really nice feature. I tried it out on a pile of twisted beach that I had given up on splitting by hand. It tore through all of it, even crotches, like it was ash. If you were wondering if this machine would be big enough, wonder no more. This thing so far, has been unstoppable!"

"Like most everyone else I looked around at several splitters before deciding on this one. Received the splitter within 3 days. It took about 2 hours to assemble. Definately need two people. This unit is heavy duty.
Used it for the first time on 24" diamenter willow with knots. This unit did not slow down one bit no matter what I put through it. Only concern is its heavy but if you what 30tons of force you get what you pay for."

1109 Log Spliter,
August 22, 2008
By Harvmaster
from Estes Park, CO
"I drove to MN. to pick up this log splitter. When I got it home I put it together and had a little trouble finding all the parts and pieces. While assembling the wheels and bearings, I could not find the parts needed and put it together without till I could get the required pieces. While opening another part of the splitter, I found the parts I needed to complete the wheel and bearing assembly. After that it all went together just as I would have hoped. I have used it several times and it works great. I do think that I would like to put a hydraulic oil filter in the system. To help it last. Overall I am very happy with the 1109 log splitter."
