"Very easy to assemble with very clear and understandable instructions. Nice running engine that started easily. Very good on gas, does a good job splitting without being at full throttle. I do wish the hydraulic tank dipstick and possibly the fuel tank were shielded. Within the first hour of use a log dropped between the engine and the rack on the side of the splitter breaking the hydraulic dipstick. As you can see from my photo there is ample room for this to happen."

Fast and Furious

"This is our second season with this log splitter. I just split 15 cords from a very large poplar tree. Poplar splits easily, but some of the logs were so big around that I had to use an engine hoist (cherry picker) to lift the log onto the machine and share the weight while the splitter crack away on it. Regardless of the size of the log, this splitter would just push right through leaving puddles of water squeezed out of the green logs.
We also split three cords of hickory. Tough wood, but this tough machine just kept on going.
It is fast, powerful, sturdy, starts easily. PowerHorse is a perfect name. Love it, love it, love it."

Reliable

"I got this late summer of 2012 and split about 3 cords with it and then put it away for the winter. Before I put it away I shut off the fuel valve and let it run out of gas. Took it back out this weekend, turned on the fuel valve with last years gas and it started on the first pull! split about 50 logs. Have yet to stall it and I definitely put some big logs through....ALL hardwoods, oak, maple and hickory. The only drag at all is that I'm always alone and sometimes the logs are too big to put on the platform (not the splitters fault). So I will likely rent a vertical splitter from the depot for a couple hours just to knock those in half and then I'll finish them up with this. All in all I'm very happy, for a grand you can't beat it. Assembled it myself but I hung the ram and table assembly from an engine hoist while assembling."

great - so far

"The splitter was packed well and directions were easy. Assembly took about 3 hours by myself - definitely recommend having help to hold, lift, allign, etc. The splitter has plenty of power. One thing to keep in mind is that the splitting wedge is a bit narrow and not very tall [maybe 6"] - so some logs [large and knotty] the wedge passed through, but the wood doesn't split. This thing is fast in relation to other splitters that I have used.
CONS - the bars that catch the wood when split are identically designed. however, the "other" side of the the operator area should be longer to cover the motor, on/off switch and plastic hydraulic fill cap. One of the first logs I split, half rolled off the other side and broke the plastic fill hydraulic fill cap. [NT is sending me a replacement steel cap - thank you] I will be welding extensions to protect this area.
Durability? the proof will be in the pudding. But I expect it to hold up well."

"I have split over 20 pickup loads of solid oak last winter after I purchased this splitter. It started easily and never found one piece that I couldn't split. I loved the dual splitting direction.I havent added a drop of oil to the motor yet and it seems to be pretty easy on the gas.I also love the tray on the machine it saves bending over a lot."

Powerhorse Dual Split Splitter

"Assembly was not bad but I did have a chain hoist.. You will need an extra set of hands if you don't have one... Little tedious but I don't put together these units everyday. Assembled in approx 4 hours and went right out to split.... Worked just like all the reviews said it would...effortless. The only thing I'm finding is that when I'm splitting logs (larger ones mostly but under 16" in dia) the logs slip off of the ends.. I have to keep turning the log to try and catch the log... I think this is ocurring mostly because the wood that I was splitting was "wet" or freshly cut down hard wood (oak).. the drier hardwood split not problem. Totally pleased with my purchase.. already split a cord or two!"

good splitter so far

"I picked this splitter up at the store in Stockbridge already assembled. After I towed it home and put the fluids in I cranked it up and was up and running in no time. I split pine and oak and sweet gum. Sweet gum is a very string wood and very difficult to split , so I was happy to see the wedge fight its way throug this wood. I would have rated this a 5 star if the front leg was on a retractable wheel instead of a fixed leg. the problem is that this unit is very heavy and a retractable wheel would make raising a lowering onto hitches easier on the back. othe than that I am very happy with this unit so far."

"Like so many, the reviews led me to purchase this splitter. I am a disabled Marine and assembly was problematic - but that's because I did it by myself and I only have one functional hand. I've used splitters from the old BarkBuster to 35 ton hydraulic - and many different versions in between. Of them all, this is the best splitter I have used. It is quick, it's consistent, and it does not hurt my back like so many other splitters have. As far as professional use: (1) I would have liked the wedge to be sharp to reduce fatigue and mess; (2) there should be a hydraulic filter; (3) the hydraulic tank needs to be doubled in size; and (4) there needs to be an oil tube/dipstick instead of those hard to reach fill-openings at the base of the engine. If these four conditions were met, this would be 5 star professionally rated."

Great splitter for the money!!

"I bought this splitter about a month ago, and believe me I was sceptical. If there had not been such good reviews I would have never bought it. Then it arived about four days after ordering in this little box, I thought oh boy what have I gotten myself into? Well assembly wasn't too bad with the use of the fork lift at work, but it's a pretty in depth job. I replaced the flimsy plastic return elbows with steel ones, as I took out the old ones that were factory installed I found one that was cross threaded and would have leaked for sure. Other than that the packaging was perfect. All the pieces where there, and she started up on the first pull. Now I do have a few pointers, first replace the plastic return elbows with steel or brass, second watch out for the air box on the motor it sticks out and I broke it off on the second use and had to buy a new one, and third the dipstick for the hydronic fluid doesn't seem to be accurate, I had to over fill the resuvwar so that there was enough fluid to fully extend the cylinder. Now the completed product is pretty impressive, I am yet to find a block of wood this won't split and I have done about 6 cord of maple since I bought it. This machine operates reasonably quickly, and not much seems to slow it down. I have put large blocks of wood on this (200+lbs.) and the side racks are much more rugged than they appear. So if you are looking for a reasonably priced powerful splitter, that's easy to move around look no further. I don't believe you you find one for the money. The dual split is nice too makes your time very efficient."

"split about five cords with it so far mostly oak maple some large split with ease i found plastic fittings will work fine not in the way. engine starts first pull if you remember to turn switch to on position. assembled my self it was loaded on my trailer which was at right height. the square ram should be filed on end to create a chamfer so won't dig in to other surface also a guard could be made using the holes on engine side to keep pieces from falling on engine great machine for the money its fast hard to keep up with."

"I purchased the Powerhourse horizontal dual split log splitter 20-ton., it's great! Was quite the task assembling it, took my time doing it, step by step, 5-hours later it was together, I know I'm a bit of a slow learner, but it came out awesome. I can't say enough about the time saving feature of splitting in both directions. I also have a Powerhourse generator that powers my entire house, both start ALWAYS on second pull! Get it you'll love it."

"I purchased the powerhorse dual split log splitter. After doing a lot of research i had decided the the powerhorse was the best product regarding quality and price. I was not disappointed with this splitter. This splitter exceded my expectations of quality and productivity. I had no problems putting it together and it started on the first pull...not bad for a girl!
Now i am going to purchase a log shredder and i know that i will be getting a quality product at the best price.

"This machine is a workhorse. It took two of us a few hours to put it together, The only issue was getting the bearing caps on the wheels. Other than that assembly was basic. Engine started on first pull!!!! I put this machine through its paces, splitting anything and everything. Knots, Ys, wouldn't even slow it down. Its also fast, with its dual direction splitting you can really put up some wood. If you walk out of this store with anyother splitter than this one you are doing yourself a huge disjustice!!"

"Thanks to the reviews I read here, I bought this splitter. It arrived soon after.. I put it together myself using a hoist. This thing is heavy! Yet, you can easily push it around the shop single handedly. Just extend the shaft first. Starts right up, and splits as long as you can stand it! Great design in every way. Buy it!"

Power Horse Log Splitter

"1. The operation is very well explained in the Operator's Manual. Easy to read and understand.
2. Easy to assemble, note that it is somewhat heavy and you might need help.
It splits large wood easily. Takes care of most knots in the wood.
The option we like best is the fact it splits in both directions.
3. I don't think there is anything I don't like. It is great.
4. The price for what we recieved was a bargain. Couldn't find anything better for the price.
5. I checked other retailers and could not find anything in the price range that would do what this would do.
6. I did not have any shipping concerns. It arrived on time when scheduled. The driver called to make sure I was home. Unloaded the unit and dropped it where I asked.
7. We bought this for our son as a Christmas gift. He is absolutely thrilled. He often said that he did not need a splitter, that he could split it by hand. Now that he has used it, he sais, why did I say I didn't want a splitter. I should have listened to you a long time ago.
