Great product! Simple, elegant design.,

"Not too long ago I bought a $187 piece of redwood 6x6 for a light post project. $uper expensive. With the Granberg mill I could have made my own rustic light post easily with free materials and paid for the mill in one project.
This thing is great! Easy to use. Safe (as much as a chainsaw tool can be). All the nuts are adjustable with the included scrench. I appreciate simple, well designed tools. No need to move your tree from the forest floor. Just mill it in place and carry out your wood in manageable pieces.
I use this primarily for cutting slabs for rustic furniture. Now I'm looking for projects to do with it. Nice wood is super expensive- especially true dimensional lumber. Much of the cost is in trucking logs to the mill, then from the mill to your local hardware store (often hundreds of miles). This mill will pay for itself in the first couple of hours.
We need to redo our decks in a couple of years. 800 square feet of 2x6 decks and railings are well, expensive. I plan on using the granberg mill (and a planer) to make true dimensional 2x8 deck boards. Should take me a couple of days to mill the lumber and save me at least a couple of thousand dollars. Plus I'll have totally cool decks and custom milled railings.
I also purchased the rails (two 5 ft. sets & connectors). They are expensive (more than the mill itself), but making a first cut is super easy. With the granberg rails I can set up my cut in 1-2 minutes. They are also light enough to carry into the forest for your milling. I also purchased a ripping chain. Funny looking thing, but it works pretty well.
Highly recommend."

Nice tool,

"So far, I've tried this tool once. It bolts very easily to the chainsaw and is easy to adjust. I don't have a ripping chain so the boards I made were fairly rough. It will take some practice to make straight, even cuts. But the learning curve doesn't seem very steep. Very pleased with this mill."

Alaskian Chainsaw Mill,

"From the light weight alluminum frame, to the ease of use, The Granberg Small Log Mill performs far superior to it's heavier and bulkier competitors models. Setup is fast and easy using the included hardware and adjustment tool., with no bar drilling required.
Also included is an easy to read guide to cutting the perfect board. It explains what to do, and what not to do, to get consistant boards with each cut.
If You are looking for a portable mill, I would reccomend this one. It transports with the saw adding only a few pounds. This makes it much easier to bring the mill to the logs, where ever they lie, slopeside, ravine, or even mountaintop, places where it would be impracticle or cost prohibative to bring a traditional log mill.
This mill has saved me thousands of dollars in lumber, that I would have had to purchase otherwise.
I have found this extremely benificial when repairing or renovating structures that have been built using roughcut or non standardized lumber. You can cut lumber to the dimensions that you need, and not what they sell.

"The model worked well even without all the extra equipment. Easy to asemble and was no trouble in working behind the chain and not having a rip chain on. will work a quicker when i order the right chain. I recomend it highly for cutting logs in half for seating around camp fires. all who works with timber on the farm should own one."

"Useing my recent purchase of The Granberg Chain Saw Milkl Model # G777. I found it to be very easy to assemble, the instructions are clear. The mill is simple to set up and adjust. I was able to cut about 100 board feet of Red Cedar in about 2 hours. I got the logs from a construction site at no cost. this is a cheap way to get good wood. I would recommed this mill for anyone who can operate a chain saw."

Great Product,

"After losing a couple very large (24" - 36") cherry trees in a recent storm, I thought I'd make some lumber instead of just splitting them for firewood. With a day's worth of milling using a 56 CC husqvarna 355 and a 20" bar (a bit more power would be nice, though it would probably be fine in softwood) I now have about 200' of thick cherry slabs drying and awaiting the planer...
It was very easy to assemble, and very easy to use. 2x10 lumber works perfectly as a starting rail for the 1st cut, no need to buy the rails. Sharp regular cross-cutting blades work just fine, too. If you're doing a lot of milling, have one or two extra on hand as you will dull them fairly quickly - mine lasted about for about 125'. Could probably go much further in softwood.
I'm almost looking forward to losing a couple more really big trees....

Granberg Chain Saw Mill, Model #G777,
August 13, 2008

"I bought the Granberg Chain Saw Mill to take advantage of some trees that were on my property, but were too difficult to remove due to rough terrain. The mill worked great to trim the trees down, so I could get them out of woods without hiring someone.
Setup of the mill was easy and attachment to your saw is with 2 screws that work by applying pressure, you do not have to drill or damage your bar for this mill. As far as using the mill, follow the instructions of spiking a board to the log as your level, be patient and let the saw do the work. Works great.
The quality of the equipment is excellent and overall I am very pleased with the product, especially for the price.

Terrific product,
August 11, 2008
By Handymanlawer

"I bought this with no experience using chain saw mills and I'm very pleased. It was easy to assemble, the directions for cutting logs were simple and straight forward, and it works great. I bought this after several strong thunder storms swept through the area and knocked down a number of trees. I have milled one medium sized white pine log into boards and have many more fallen trees in my neighborhood to start working on, so I will soon have a shop full of freshly-milled lumber. There is nothing like building something out of wood you milled yourself. A couple pointers. First, you'll need to make or buy rails as guides for the first cut. You can use a straight plank or a pair of 2x4s; no need to buy the pre-built rails (the directions for the mill give you enough info to figure out how to make rails yourself). Second, buy a rip chain from Granberg Int'l. Typical chain saw chains are made for cross-cutting and don't work well for ripping long logs (you will get very tired pushing the saw through a log without a rip blade). Third, use a full-face visor or, better yet, pick up a logging helmet with a built in visor. Milling produces a lot of saw dust and using a full-face visor allows you to focus on cutting rather than clearing saw dust from your face. It's also a good idea to use logging chaps. You'll feel a lot more comfortable having your legs covered with something that will stop a chain saw blade in the event that something goes wrong.
All in all, a great product.

"We purchased this tool not really expecting alot but how fun. This tool cuts wood into planks like you would buy from a lumber yard. It does take some time but the smell of fresh cut wood and the revealing grain is time well spent. Buy it if you are not in a hurry."

"It took me about 30 min to put the G777 together from the box. So far, used it to cut relatively small logs from large tree branches.. It's much cheaper than buying a band saw mill. Yes, it does create more waste than other mills, but it didn't cost me thousands!"

Great little tool...save $100's,
November 28, 2007
By Timbolumberjack

"I bought a Poulan Wild Thing and put an 18" bar and chain on it and then bought this Granberg tool.
I cannot believe how easy and cheap and fast it is to mill high quality lumber. I took down 3 large white pines and cut them up over several weekends using the mill. I have a garage full of dense, heart-of-pine 2X4's now (real 2X4's) for building over the winter months.
I look at the lumber available in the big box building supply houses and laugh at the high price and poor quality. They are selling balsa wood!
Keep a sharp chain and fresh fuel and you can't go wrong. I paid for the saw and mill in one weekend.

Alaskan MK III Portable Lumber Mill,
October 29, 2007
By Jackieboy
from Previous, N. California. Current, Maryland
"Recently I retired my old roller type Alaskan Mill and purchased the MK III. I am very pleased with the way this mill is constructed. It is very light weight and extremely durable. Those of you who believe the roller type mills are best; I must say I thought the same thing too. However, you must admit rollers were continually rolling up over wood chips and contributed to making a rougher cut. The flat slide bars are great as they push the chips off as you cut. If you're looking for a truly portable mill attachment I think you will agree this is the only way to go. I mill 6’ to 10’ per minute at 18” to 22” wide in yellow poplar and can be off the log site with my prized lumber in no time. Maintenance on this setup is nil and in my opinion, the best one man solution around. Jack"

Granberg chain saw mill,
March 12, 2007
By Mississippi
from wood worker since first grade
"I now have a way to get a variety of lumber for woodworking projects!
Assembly is a breaze- did not have to use instructions until after I put it together, ( just to make sure it was right). Attached easily to my Stihl. Slices through logs in minutes. The trick is to keep a sharp chain at the first hint of slowing down your saw.
I made a jig for the saw mill to start the initial cut from an old sliding glass door frame.
I can now make use of fallen trees from storms or construction sights and not have to say what a waste of wood.

Granberg chain saw mill Md. # G777,
March 10, 2007
By Flem

"I own about 115 acres of good timber made of red and white oak, cherry, walnut and until the bettles came, giant pines. Although this a wildlife and plant reserve, we do selectively harvest trees . The buying of this small (hobbist) saw mill really has nothing to do with the trees except as a hobbist I like to work with these fine woods to build furniture. Since I have purchased the Granberg G777, I am able to take parts of damaged trees at any time and process them into furniture. Short logs ( up to 4 or 5 foot ) and up to 15 to 18 inches in diameter can be easily handled either in the woods (usually dried out) or I can bring them home. There I can process them into 1 inch boards and after they air cure, run them through a 13 inch planner and I have beautiful, smelly wood to process at will. Before I had to mess with taking logs to the saw mill (which I never did) , or purchase expensive wood I already had or do without (which I nearly always did). Now with this little , inexpensive but utility piece of mechanism has set me free. A whole lot of thanks to the person who came up with this piece of joy."

"I purchased the Granberg Chain Saw Mill for my son for Christmas. He works in construction. He is building his own home. This will be their first house. They currently live in trailer. He is very pleased with the saw mill. He has been cutting cedar tree in planks for interior of him home. He said that the saw mill is best Christmas present that he has every gotten. I saw the planks that he had cut with saw mill and they were excellent. The saw mill cuts them very smooth. My son said it is very easy to use."
