Reese trailer hitch lock,
August 11, 2008
"I have used this hitch lock and find it easy to install, use, and it fits trailers that some other locks don't fit. It seems to be a good deterrent to would be thieves. I don't think anyone has tried to steal my trailer, but that's the purpose. No lock can stop a determined thief but it makes it so much harder that many will look elsewhere for their dirty work."

Visually deterrent but only minimally effective,

"It may deter the least sophisticated thieves, but I can pick the lock on it at least 12 times in under a minute-with a pair of nail clippers. Try it: take the nail file on a pair of nail clippers, stick it in the cylinder, twist gently and rock it back and forth. I bet it opens in under a minute. I give it two stars because it does have a beefy construction that holds up well to repeated hammer blows. (Just don't take a drill to it, because it drills like wood.) Do yourself a favor and consider how much you have invested in your trailer and the stuff on it. Do you really want to cheap out on the lock?"

Good in Certain Applications,

"The quality of this lock seems pretty good for the price, but it doesn't work on all trailer couplings. It fits two of our three trailers. It will go onto the third trailer, but only to the first detent and you can't get the rod over center of the coupling so I would say the protection it affords is limited. Shoot some white lithium grease into the lock cylinder to displace moisture and provide some lubrication if leaving it installed outside for long periods."

"i had a wheel lock and the reese lock on the tongue, but the locks were no match for the thieves that stole my 3,000 dollar trailer. it looks tough, but it didn't do anything for me. if bolt cutters can still cut it, it isn't tough enough."

Tough Coupler Lock,

By SSSSTFIRE from Watsonville, CA
"I need to keep my equipment secure from theft. These coupler locks are installed on all my trailers. The locking mechanism operates very simply and easily and has fit the wide variety of couplers that I have. I would be suprised if there was a coupler it wasn't compatible with. These are strong units and can take a lot of abuse."
