Paint it right out of the box

"I would have given this item 5 stars if it didn't need painted right out of the box. After reading other reviews, the big problem with this coupler is it rusts very quickly. Purchased it to convert from a pintail on our dump trailer. I just sprayed with a primer and then 3-4 coats of semi gloss black. Really appreciated the other reviews on northern and other sights, without them I'd have installed without painting and would have faced the same rust issue. It's very sturdy and gets used often. Bottom line, I'd buy it again."

OK Hitch Coupler, but others are better

"I bought a couple of these for my heavy trailers. Installation was no problem as the fit was right on. The operation is tricky to say the least, latching is no problem. It is when you try to unlatch, we ifnd that you have to work it with the jack to get it to unlatch and set the pin to hold the latch open. Not as easy as the B--dog connector, which I have also used.
The worst part of the whole deal is the rust. The thing rusts like it was built with rust enhancers added! Don't brush against it or it will be all over you, and boy does it make your nice trailer look hideous. We even tried sanding off the rust and painting it with a clear coat, but that only lasted a short time as the finish got worn off.
Wear your grungies around it, you've been warned!"
