Engine hoist and more,
November 4, 2009
By Merlyn
from De Soto Ia
"I have used this tool for a little more than an engine hoist. I was working on a pair of Studebaker pickups a while back and needed to remove the cab to inspect the frame. I had a come along that would have done the job, but that would have required me to stand on a ladder close to the project and possibly get knocked off, either by the swinging cab or if the cab would have fallen. I used the load leveler and a few tie down straps and lifted the cab off, rolled it out of the way and placed it on the floor.
It must have impressed someone because it was gone when I returned from my tour of duty in Iraq.

Great Hoist,

"I don't pull engines, but I do need to move heavy objects. We recently purchased 14,000 lbs of soapstone to be used for countertops. We needed a forklift to unload the 15 crates but of course could not use it inside the house to move the crates to where they are needed (all crates weigh at least 400lbs but some weigh 3-4000). The hoist with the engine leveler works great for moving the crates and we have made a web sling for lifting the individual slabs for cutting and laying on counters. Each slab weights 2-400 lbs and the hoist with it's heights adjustment is working great. Now, these two old coots can get on with building their dream home without straining.

More than an engine hoist.,
July 20, 2009
By gcrper
from Gaffney SC
"I am a shade tree motorcycle mechanic, doing minor repairs on mine and friends cycles. Recently my wife purchased the motorcycle lift for me and I love it, but as I'm getting up in years I had trouble putting bikes on their centerstands on the lift. A friend said I should buy an engine hoist and after looking at numerous ones I purchased this one. Now I wheel a bike onto the lift, put it on the side stand, hook up the engine hoist to the frame past center of the cycle and lift. Then I can either put down the center stand or leave it suspended by the hoist. And if I need to remove the front wheel, instead of searching around for somethig to block up the bike, just connect the engine hoist to the handlebars and it's done. If I need to rotate the cycle on the work stand, I connect the hoist near the center of gravity for the bike, lift, and rotate.. Recently I wanted to sharpen the blades on my tractor type lawn mower, so connected the hoist to the front of the mower, lifted and sharpened the blades. At a fraction of the time it took before to jack up the mower, crawl around on the ground, upbolt the blades, sharpen and rebolt. This machine is a lot more than an engine hoist. With the folding legs and wheels, I just wheel it to a corner of my garage and it's out of the way. You won't go wrong with the purchase of this hoist. And someday I may even use it to hoist an engine."

"This tool comes in very handy. I do construction work as well as hobby mechanic and I have used and abused this tool on the jobsite as well as the garage. I have lifted a ton of concrete blocks in an off level surface. I thought the hoist was going to get bent but it never had a problem. Wheels roll well. Folding is a good bonus because it fits in a 2 foot by 3 foot space on the shop floor. Free load leveler is excellent."

Great Hoist at a Decent Price,
March 23, 2009
By cdnmatt
from Santa Rosa, CA
"I used this hoist to pull an engine from an old Toyota MR2. The engine on the MR2 needs to be pulled from beneath the vehicle so the vehicle was lifted fairly high on blocks. I was worried that the hoist would not have enough vertical range so I opted for this model over the 1 Ton version. The vertical range was plenty.
It also folds up nicely and takes up little room in my garage."

Foldable engine hoist,

"I've only used it three times thus far, but am very pleased with it's performance. The load leveler came in handy on the first engine I pulled; a V-8 which I had shoehorned into an antique tractor. I also like the way it folds up for storage. I'm very pleased with my purchase!"

"I could not be more pleased with the performance of this hoist. For the money, you can't beat it. Of course you can buy other lifts whose fit and finish is better, but you will pay much, much more for them."

Engine Hoist,

By dmflaf

"This engine hoist and leveler is perfect. Many other uses in shop, you just have to use your imagination. Tucks away neatly in the corner when not being used. Mine doesn't spend much time in the corner - it seems like I use it every weekend on tractors, mowers, and of course engines. Can't work without it."

Engine Hoist,

By Captain01

"We have nothing but good news about the foldable engine hoist. It can handle the job with no problem and the ease of storage in a small space is super. As with anything you can over load to tool and miss use it. I am a firm believer if this engine hoist is used properly it will continue to do a great job for us for a long time to come. If you keep the Wheels/ Casters lubed it rolls fairly easy also with a load. You can not ask for better quality over all for the price."

Decent tool for the money,
June 16, 2008
By octane

"Overall, for the money I think this hoist is a good value. The first time I used it the weld broke on the ring that holds the handle. Not a load bearing/structural weld, but questionable. The hoist is sturdy with a load on it and does fold up nicely for space saving.
It also would be nice if the caster mounting bolts were shorter. It'd be easier to put the bolts on with the nuts on the outside instead of holding the nuts with pliers in the inside of the legs. The other way they're too long and don't allow the casters to rotate."

engine hoist,
April 21, 2008
By Eastman1001
"Product arrived in a timely manner. All parts were there. Assembly was fairly simple. No problem with parts fitting together or holes lining up. Hoist works well. The free leveler is for light weight use, but I ordered the heavy duty one so everything went smooth. I consider myself to be mechanically inclined and have done this type of work before, but I was a lot younger then."

"I originally ordered this hoist and when I recieved it it was missing several parts. After a week battling the manufacturer on the phone I finally reached Randy in customer service. He immediately sent another entire hoist out ad just asked me to call when I had the peices of the original hoist ready to ship...
This is the kind of customer service that the rest of the world needs to emulate!

"i purchased this very item from northern back early last sumer because of the excellent price it had on it and boy am i glad i did.not long after buying it my wifes little saturn car needed a clutch put in it so instead of takeing it in to a garage i new i had purchased this engine puller and descided to do it my-self
if you own a saturn and if you have ever had to have a clutch replaced you no it requires the engine be removed to do this job if it had not been for buying this item i would have had a job on my hands but thanks to how easy this item works it was a snap the engine hoist had no problems lifting that motor and tranny right out of the car and the engine levler was fantastic as you needed to tilt the engine to get it out,in short this item was worh every cent i paid for it worked like a charm with out any problems and it folds up for storage a big big plus.thanks northern for the great item.
