"Bought this thinking I could use it instead of a Beverly shear. Boy was I wrong.
I am VERY dissapointed in this tool. It simply doesn't work very well. Thicker stuff - it wont grip... hard to get started and make a clean cut.
Woodward was helpful when the cutter cracked (1st use)
Manual is useless. There is no information on adjusting - woodward does have a marginal document that helps.
All in all - I think this is not worth the $$$'s. Knowing what I do now - I wouldn't take this if someone gave it to me...
It must work in some environments - perhaps with galvinized or thinner material. I have been trying to cut 10-14 guage cold rolled steel.
Wish I had not purchaced. Now it sits on the shelf and is not used."

This tool rocks

"The previous poster is a tool. This shear is great. Like all real metal working tools it does require some TLC.
It needs to be taken apart, cleaned and greased and lubricated
It has to be set up correctly.
As I got it it was adjusted with the blades too close together.
After I got it adjusted properly it cuts great.
I have cut 22 gauge, 14 gauge and a little 10 gauge.
Will it cut 1/8" Maybe, but that seems a little thick!!
It has a hard to use adjustment, kinda old school, but it works.
There NEEDS to be a gap between the blades.
You need to tighten the adjusting bolt, or it WILL slip. If it slips get a man to tighten it for you
If your idea of using a tool is to pull the trigger and have magic happen, don't buy it.
If you want to cut curved lines in 14 gauge steel, this works great.
Notice that a rotatory shear is not meant for cutting straight lines, That is what those big straight shears are for. this thing will do anything but straight!"

Total Junk

"My first cut of 18 gauge steel caused the upper blade to climb on top of the lower. Thinking it just needed adjustment, I fiddled with the adjustments for over an hour. I went through a reasonable range of adjustments with inconsistent results. The upper and lower blades both had 1/32" of slop which could not be tightened or shimmed out. When the blades have a total of 1/16" of play, don't expect any cuts to work out with any kind of precision. This is a piece of junk and now I understand why the real beverly shears are so expensive. Save your money or stick to softer than mild steel materials. There is no way this will shear 1/8" steel."
