"I have owned this cabinet for a little over a year, and it has worked well for me. It is very important to have dry air, and to keep the media dry. The cabinet does require some minor assembly and tweaking to get it to seal tight. The lighting does leave something to be desired. But the shortcomings are things easily fixed.
I have made some significant modifications to my cabinet by adding locking caster wheels to make it easier to move around the garage, a bottom shelf to store bags of blasting media and a 24" flourescent light fixture to improve the lighting. I have used black blast and glass bead with great success. The size of the cabinet has allowed me to clean some large lower suspension arms (larger than the ones in my picture), and I hope to do a set of wheels in it yet this summer."

"Versatile cabinet that works well for light duty. Cleaning tools, cleaning rusty parts, etc. The frame is a bit flimsy and the gloves leave a little to be desired but overall it's a great product for the money."

"Good Cabinet for the money. Gun could be better, seems to occasionally have trouble picking up media. (I use the cabinet with Aluminum Oxide) Very spacious inside and easy access for longer pieces."

Bent out of shape,

"Cabinet works great, once you fix a few things:
I put the legs of the cabinet together and attached the cabinet to them. No problems. The cabinet felt sturdy and I was ready to move on to the next step, installing the Plexiglas. I attached the hinge to the top window and then proceeded to put the window on the cabinet. That's where I ran in to the first problem: None of the holes lined up, I looked a little closer and realized that the entire top part of the cabinet was bowed down in the middle by about an inch. I probably could have called Northern and they may have sent me a new cabinet, but I didn't feel like waiting for another 2-3 weeks for a freight pickup and drop off. I ended up taking some heavy duty angle iron and a flat bar back plate, cutting them to the length of the cabinet, then drilling and pulling the plastic cabinet back into place. The top door hinge now fit into the pre-drilled holes, but the door wouldn't close all the way. The nuts holding the glass to the hinge were catching on the cabinet. After slotting the pre-drilled holes on the cabinet I was able to get the door to close without hanging up on it's hinge.
Now onto the side door. The angle iron and flat bar fixed the alignment of the top door, but the side door was still an issue. The pre-cut door opening was pretty wavy and surely would let glass bead out if not remedied. About 15 minutes with a heat gun and a pair of gloves gave the side door a flat surface to close against and all was well. Or so I thought.
After the doors were mounted the next step is to install the foam padding on the doors and install the clamps that hold the doors down when blasting. The top door clamp installation went fine, no problems... On the side door, however, I had to re-drill all the factory holes to make the clamps fit. They must have used a misaligned jig at the factory.
Other than the few problems I've had setting the cabinet up, I'm happy with it's performance. Some suggestions I've used from previoud posters I'm glad I did were: Ordering the second light kit (This does make a worthwhile difference). And also, using the compact fluorescent instead of incandescent bulbs if you're interested in getting the most light with the least amount of heat output."

Good Blast Cabinet,
January 21, 2008

"Never had a blast cabinet before, wanted one big enough to do a wheel right off the bat....this one is plenty big, works great....only advice is to get a foot-operated kit for it if you're going to be using it alot, as the hand trigger gets tiring after a while."

"this is a great blasting cabinet. but more light would be nice, would recomend an extra light kit, and higher wattage bulbs do work, but it causes the areas around the light to get warm, so dont leave it on for too long. also, get a water seperator, or an auxlary tank for your compressor because it goes through air fast and gets hot making moisture. suction feed works well, but not as well as i hoped with 100psi. makes cleaning parts really easy, but it is still messy, sand leaks through the doors even with the seals."

"the blast cabinet works fine. a better light would be helpful. just increasing the wattage might damage the plastic cabinet. the buyer should be aware that air
consumption is considerable .my 5hp2stage compressor will not allow me to operate the unit continously. also i am using a shop vac for dust control and this is marginal at best.

More than I expected,

"I had a small table top blaster so I didn't expect this to be much better, especially for price, but I was amazed. Did everything I wanted it to do. On someone else's advice I did order a second light for inside when I pruchased it, really glad I did. The media I purchased with the blaster also worked out great."

Cabinet Blaster,
July 13, 2007
By wpoldake

"Have used many "small " booth type blast cabinets in my maintenance groups over the years. This cabinet is particularly unique in the fact it is all plastic and does not suffer the rapid wear issues as some of the metal cabinets do. Cleaning and set up are also much easier since there are no open edges insdie or sharp corners in the construction. The main viewing glass is larger than most and due to the way it is mounted, it is easy to change wear shield. The minor cons I have are the blast shelf is not too strong and deflects easily. I replaced mine with a much sturdier shelf and incorporated a finer mesh for straining into this shelf. The interior light is somewhat anemic and becomes too hot with a higher wattage standard bulb so substitue the new flourescent bulbs."
