"I purchased the predecessor to this pump but the Honda GX160 engine is the same.
The GX160 has a reputation for long-life under heavy use conditions. That may be the case with respect to the heads and bottom end. However, as a homeowner, I don't need these attributes. I need something that works when I pull the starter.
Here's my experience with a less than 2 year old product:
1) Engine delivered with a cracked case - oil leaked. Replacement cases on backorder as this was/is a common problem. Downtime, over two months during the time of year I needed to use it.
2) Engine never ran well and repeatedly stalled. The gas cap (Honda part) was delivered clogged with crud. You can't get into the cap. You go and buy a new one as dealing with Honda is a trial few of us want to bother with. According to the dealers, this is a very common issue with the GX series engines and Honda replaces fuel caps constantly.
3) Engine still did not run well. Tore down the Keihin carburetor and found all sorts of rubber from mold flashing from gaskets and, what appeared to be, sealant floating around in the carb.
I had a B&S powered washer for years and it always ran like a champ. The pump finally self-destructed and I replaced it with the above referenced unit.
My advice, save your money and go for a B&S powered unit. If you choose not to, check the engine casings carefully for stress cracks around the bolts. If it stalls or does not run well, loosen the gas cap and see if that's the issue. If it still runs lousy, learn to rebuild carbs. Or, save yourself the grief and go for B&S power."
