Great USA Made Quality

,
September 15, 2011
By Waldheim

"Finding quality products made in the United States of America are getting harder and harder to find. The Leeson model #116512 is definitely an exception. The components of this motor are high quality not found on imports. Pay close attention to the wiring diagram attached to the motor case. The motor ships configured for 230 VAC, clockwise rotation. Several wires must be unplugged and replugged on different posts to configure for 115 VAC. To configure for counter clockwise rotation, two wires are reversed.
Pros: High quality and USA craftsmanship. Reasonably priced.
Cons: Wiring and installation instructions should also be included in seperate printed material."

2 HP Motor

,

"I bought this to replace the 2 HP motor on my Craftsman table saw. It works better than the motor that came with the saw. Running a 2 inch thick board through the saw does not slow the saw at all. I am very satisfied with Motor. I hooked it up for 120 volt but am going to rewire the power run to the saw and change it to 220."

Great Motor

"Catalog photos do not do justice to this motor. This motor is blue and the mounting stand is large with several mounting holes. For all you out there looking for a great motor for your shop or to replace another motor this is the one for you. It only took me about 10 min. to connect the wires for 120 volt (make sure you use a 30 amp breaker for 120 volt) and about 10 min. to mount the motor and it was running just fine. Super strong and very quiet for a 2 HP motor 3450 RPM. This is the 3rd motor that I have purchased from Northern Tools ( 1 1/2 HP & 1/3 HP & 2 HP) and they all work perfect. Also the price of this motor is the best, just look around and you will see.
PS: This motor is Capacitor Start and Capacitor Run for extra running power.
Thank you Northern Tools for a great product!!!

"Appearance: Ignore the photo; the motor is actually blue, and the capacitor housing is a box on top.
What's in the Box: A motor, and a note saying this should be hooked up by a qualified electrician. A power cord is not included.
The good: Once you get it hooked up right, this motor is perfect, whisper quiet, and powerful, all the way down to below-freezing temperatures.
The bad: Out of the box, the motor is configured for 220 volts. If you want to use it on 110, you refer to the tiny diagram on the side to rearrange several quick-disconnect wires underneath an access panel. This is good in theory, except that the numbers stamped onto the circuit board are almost invisible, and seem equidistant to a number of different pins. I was saved by the fact that I took digitals of the "before" state, and could work out, as with a logic problem, which pins actually corresponded to which numbers. I finally had to take it to a local Leeson dealer to confirm that I'd gotten it right.
Note: This motor draws about 25 amps on startup, and ramps down to about 6-7 amps while running. Make sure your breaker box and wiring are up to it!"

"I was very dissapointed when I got the motor and saw that there was no electrical cord and I had to hire a electrician to hook it up. I feel that it should have came with a cord already hooked up and or instructions on how to hook it up."

Leeson Compressor Motor

"Catalog photos do not pay justice to this motor! The motor mounting pad is more of a universal design, so as to be usable in many more mounting applications than you might think. The starter capacitor housing is also different and well contained in a wonderful rectangular housing atop the motor and is smaller than the motor diameter, so as to fit in tighter confines.
The breaker reset button looks to be of the sealed type and is located on the back side of the capacitor box for easy access.
All in all, this is a perfect replacement for many applications and would recommend to all do it yourselfers!

Intlhud

"I delayed replacing my compressor motor for a year or more, until deciding to increase the horspower, buying the 2 hp to go in place of the old 1 hp motor. The one hp motor was always underpowered, and had a tough time overcoming the torque of the compressor. The new motor breezes through and runs a lot quieter. I looked all over for one to beat the price, and found this to be the best for the money."
