2 yrs and still going strong

I bought this. I actually tracked it down and drove a 150 miles so I could pick it up myself.
I bought a drain extension at the same time. First thing I did before adding the oil was install the drain. The drain plug just snapped right off. I was speechless. When I caught my breath I threw the thing in the truck and drove it over to a machine shop and they had to heat it to remove it. Someone had used red loctie on it. Must have been a joke on someones last work day.
i could have just returned it but that was what i wanted and i drove a long way to get it.
i filled it with oil and never looked back. i am very pleased with its performance. i recently changed the compressor oil for the 3rd time and began using mobil one synthetic oil in it. the drain extension is a must because its just too much trouble to empty without it. and if you dont drain it regularly you will develop holes sooner rather than later. i drain the water on a schedule.
i dont think its as loud as some i have heard. there are lots of compressors to choose from this a good one.

Great, except for the noise

I purchased this to replace a 25 year old IR compressor that finally rusted a hole in the tank. It arrived as expected with damage to the power and pressure switches. Northern Tool arranged for prompt replacement parts and once I installed them the unit worked just fine.
I have run this unit every day for over a year and it has not missed a beat. It sits in my shop under a workbench and the only complaint I have is that it is extremely noisy when running. It recharges the tank quickly which is large enough so that it unit does not run constantly. However, I will say that my air requirements are nominal. I only use the air to blow chips away on a milling machine and lathe as well as run the occasional paint sprayer.
This is an excellant compressor for the price. If you do not mind replacing the parts that will most likely be damaged during shipping than you will be pleased with this unit.

Good compressor, really bad packaging

The tank fills really fast so it doesn't run as much as slower filling products and it puts out a lot of CFM. It's not particularly quiet, though it's not as loud as some. Overall, I'm happy with the product so far, although I haven't had much chance to use it yet.
What's really awful about the product is its poor packaging. In researching compressors, I fairly quickly found that the stats on this one were very good for the price. But, I also found many complaints from various sites about how poorly the units are packaged for shipping from the Campell Hausfeld factory. There were many reports of buyers having to send the units back because they were damaged in shipping.
This product seemed to fit my needs and was reasonably priced so I decided to chance it. Sure enough, my unit showed up with it's flimsy shipping box heavily damaged and the pressure gauge snapped off. Internal bracing and padding is on a par with the light duty shipping box.
I rejected the product and called Northern Tool for a replacement, which was sent out without hassle. That was all good news, of course. The better news is that the replacement unit showed up in good condition, although the flimsy box was was again damaged.
I find it odd that Campbell Hausfeld doesn't beef up the packaging when they're regularly replacing damaged-in-shipping units. Repeatedly sending out new units has to cost more than better boxes. Especially if you count customer satisfaction.

I bought this compressor from northern tool about 4 months ago and it is an excellent product for the price. I use it in my garage for everything from tire inflation to running air tools and it keeps up well. The only problem i have had was the company that shipped it damaged the regulator when they took it off the truck. I repaired that myself. Good product and MADE IN THE USA!!!!!
