"Recently we experienced an ice storm that took out the power for over 3 days. 77 hours to be exact. This generator that spends most of it's time sitting in the corner of the garage kept our household running practically normal. After the ice storm passed the temperature plummeted into the single digits and stayed there. We also have well water so we're dependant on electricity for that as well. The house stayed warm, the showers were hot, the fridge was cold and except for the dull hum of the generator in the background, we almost forgot we were on generator power. We ran the dishwasher, ran a blow drier, ran the vacuum cleaner (not all at the same time) and the generator didn't miss a beat. I have owned two other generators of diferent brands and similar size and this one is far superior to the others in all aspects."

"Since the power at our house is inconsistant, I ordered this as a backup in 2000. It has been serviced as required and used for about 40 hours total. We had a power outage yesterday(3/29/09) and the Honda engine ran fine, but the unit would not generate any electricity. When we needed it, it failed. That's not reliable to me. Now I have to find somewhere to fix the unit and hope our power does not go out before I can get it back."

Northstar Generator, November 18, 2008
By Lylie from Clay Center, KS

"I had lost power during a rainstorm. The electricity stayed off for over 1-1/2 hours. I live in an earth-sheltered home, and have drain tile all around my home that is pumped out with a good sump pump. I watched in horror as water began pouring in my basement, and when I called the power company, I was told that we should have battery backup on our pump to prevent this from happening. I have lived in my home since 1982, and have never had a problem like this. I decided at that time to purchase a generator since I felt I could not depend on the power company to keep the electricity on during vital times. About a week after purchasing the 8000 Watt North Star Portable Generator, the electricity went off once again. The generator started on the first pull, and I was able to keep my refrigerator, freezer, pump, and lights running until the city restored the power. It was a great feeling to know that I didn't have to depend on the power company again. I would highly recommend this generator to any of my friends and family, and have already done so on more than one occasion."

When we lost power with a housefull of relatives the northstar generator ran like a champ all night and day. it was used for nearly 2 full weeks with out a hiccup. It isnt the quietest one but that honda motor is the king. Forget briggs or any other motor manufacturer. HONDA is the KING!!!! thats to NTE for being in stock when no one else was. you saved our lives. God Bless!!!! MATT S."

"We began adding these generators as an option to the equipment we manufacture.
They do just what they claim they can do...they run steady and they burn little fuel as compaired to others. I assume thats because they run on a Honda engine...

northstar thanks, November 17, 2008
By Apento from Florida Panhandle

"Hit by hurricanes Ivan (2004) and Dennis (2005), We were without power and public water for 10 days (Ivan) and 5 days (dennis). The Northstar generator provided enough power to run my well and most household appliances.
The entire neighborhood would come over to shower each day and that was a real needed convenience with all the recovery work and humid air.
Having the generator may have even saved my marriage since I don't believe my wife could have handled the stress otherwise.

Total disappointment, September 17, 2008
By darrenm from Florida

"I have 13 hours on my machine. The warranty period expired without much use on this generator. Since that time, I've replaced the idle control board which is a computer board that cost me about $150. I've replaced the capacitors on the generator, and now my generator head has to be replaced.
I love Honda and paid quite a bit for this generator thinking that I was getting something that would operate trouble free. At this rate I have about $200 per running hour. I'm a mechanical engineer and attorney

Reliable, May 7, 2008
By SGToolMan from Durham, NC

"I am very pleased with this generator. I was reluctant to purchase this 13 Hp engine with out an electric start. However after reading about the starting feature of the Honda engines to reduce compression at startup, I decided to try it. It started up on the first pull and virtually every time since. It has not disappointed me yet!!"

GREAT NORTHSTAR PRODUCT, April 23, 2008
By HAUSS from HALTOM CITY, TEXAS

"I've had four different types of generators for hooking up to a transfer switch connected to my house in a residentional nieghborhood. The Northstar brand is greatest I've had yet. The power supply is good, but it's aliittle loud, but you can't beat it for the price and quality.
If your looking for high output with no noise, you would be better off with the Honda EU Series 6500 Watt Generator(item#167202-1806), but it will cost you.
Good Luck

ultra reliable generator, April 21, 2008
By reliable from North Carolina resident

"I have owned NorthStar Generator for several years and only have had to use it once during a hurricane. I have had it stored for at least three years and had always told myself that I would start it every few months (which never happened) Well, I needed it the other day and it started right up without a problem. It is great to know that it is that reliable."

A life saver!!, April 21, 2008
By covtiger from Covington, LA

"Several years before Katrina, My wife and I decided it would be good to have a generator before the next hurricane season. We went three or four years with near misses, just as I was thinking we shouldn't have purchashed a generator, Hurricane Katrina came to visit.
We were lucky to have only minor damage to our property. After the next morning, it was like nothing you have never seen before. Trees down everywhere. We could not leave home, it was hot, no power or water. I had my wife, two daughters, and one grand child to take care of. It was very hot.
I went out to my garage, rolled out my Northern Star 8000 watt generator. It started on the first pull. It ran about 8 hours until the gas ran out. I was able to run almost everything in my house except the Central A/C unit. I also ran an extention cord for a light and fan at my nieghors house. I had an old window unit in my garage also. I install it into my bedroom window. It was the only way to get cool.
We lived off of the generator for eight days until the power came back on. I then let other friends and relatives use it until thier power was retored. Some taking as long as eight week. That in Louisiana in September.
The Generator was a life saver. The best money in ever spent.

8000 watt North Star Generator, April 21, 2008
By Leops from Florence, Montana

"We bought this unit in 1999. We added the wheel kit and the plastic cover. We use the unit at home through a gen-tran switch to power lights, well pump, refrigerator, natural gas furnace and freezer during power outages. We run the unit at least 30 minutes each month to keep it running good and the seals in good shape. It almost always starts first pull on the starter rope. We do keep a 60 watt bulb under the engine when temperatures drop below 0 degrees F. It starts easily under those conditions. The only problem we have had is that when the well pump kicked on, sometimes it caused enough motion that the oil level sensor would trip and shut the engine off. I disconnected the oil level sensing curcuit and always make sure the oil level is on full before starting and we have had no more unwanted shut downs. We have had to run the unit as long as 6 to 7 hours at a stretch with no problems and no oil consumption. I change oil every September and change the fuel filter every 4 or 5 years. We would recommend this unit to anyone needing the type of service it can provide."

By Jam67 from Calhoun,LA

"We have had our generator for some time and have had no real problems with it. I would recommend the purchase of this generator. We purchased this from you a few year ago and it is still going strong. We use it when we go out of town and also around the house sometimes. We have a horse trailer with A/C, lights, fridge, etc. and it powers everything real good"

"This
unit is a great buy for the price. Lots of power and reserve capacity
for starting heavy loads. The power doesn't go off often here, but when
it does, it is out for hours. This unit runs the entire house without a
problem.
