A Great Grinder/Stuffer,March 7, 2007
By Sausagekingfrom Annapolis, MD
"I did a great deal of research before selecting this grinder. Suffice it to say, this is a great product at a great price and I have found no others that come close in quality in this price range. My Grinder/Sausage Stuffer came with 3 stuffing tubes while the product specs listed only one ( pleasant surprise). I use it primarily for grinding and stuffing all types of sausage. It is a superior product with all metal food contact parts. The "ON" switch can also be "pulsed" by pushing it in partway, an important feature when stuffing sausage. All the critical parts can be easily removed for cleaning (and boiling) if you sterilize the unit after using (which you should).
The only improvement that could possibly be made is not with the product, but with the instruction manual. The manual instructs you to remove the grinder plate and cutter when installing the stuffing tube for stuffing sausage. This will not work as the grinder plate also serves as the front bearing surface for the auger. When removed, the auger is not supported at the front and will work its way out from the motor housing connection socket. (no big deal as it comes out for cleaning anyway, but you can't stuff sauges in this configuration). So, I put the grinder plate and blade back in, then put on the stuffing tube and "wala", it worked like a charm. So if you choose, grind and stuff in one operation. If you choose not to do it this way, put in the larger grinding plate when you get ready to stuff so you don't get a "double grind" that is finer than you desire!
I can't say enough good about this machine. It is heavier duty than any I have found in this price range, has a powerful motor and the grinding disks (3 sizes come with the machine) and cutter blade appear to be made from tool steel. The auger, collar, auger housing, and meat tray are all cast aluminum. It has built in cord storage and wieghs more than you would expect. Kudos to Northern Tool, they scored a winner with this product!"

Great value, great product-Highly recommend.,March 7, 2007
By romovafrom Leesburg VA
"The meat grinder has worked very well for me, better than I expected for the cost of the unit compared to other models I evaluated. I bought it as an interim solution until I could get a larger HP unit, but am thinking now I won't need it. I was very surprised how quickly it ground a deer without cutting it into small pieces, as i'd had to do previously with a comparably priced unit. I also didn't have any problems with it clogging with connective tissue or tendon-surprisingly as I just ran the meat through to give it a good test. It didn't even slow down. The cutter was clean when done, unlike others I had to clean out several times while processing a deer. It is also an unusual cutter blade, shaped like a propellor pushing the meat towards the cutting disk, unlike others that were just a flat knife. It saved alot of time and aggravation. I never got a chance to try to reversing switch as it wasn't needed, but if/when it will be good. The storage area that allows keeping the parts with the unit was something I really like too. Cord storage was nice too. A great value, I would highly recommend."

Gettin' it done fast,November 23, 2006
By CaptEfrom Missouri
"My good friend and hunting buddy recently used my newly purchased grinder to process meat from two deer we took during the high power season here in MO. We ground a little over 60 pounds of venison in a little over 20 minutes. Last year with a hand grinder it took well over two hours to grind a comprable amount of meat. The grinder preformed flaulessly. It never strained no matter how fast we were pushing the meat into it, and the strainer never clogged. The three strainers along with the metal pan, and grinding head make this a very versitile product. Clean up was easy, just put all of the moving parts in the dish washer. I would recommend that the steel strainer head be removed after the wash cycle and hand dried then coated with some oil to prevent rusting. P.S. My friend was so impressed with the performance of my grinder, he has asked me to order one for him. ."

#12 Electric Meat Grinder,November 5, 2009
By KUKOAfrom Pearl City, Hawaii
"The Northern Industrial Grinder works great for making palu (Hawaiian for chum). I ground up the flesh of a ten pound amberjack, 5 lbs. of semi-frozen anchovies and a 3lb. box of semi-frozen cuttlefish with ease.
Next I ground up ten lbs. of dried cat food to complete the palu. Just remember not to fill the hopper full but gradually add a little at a time to prevent the grinder from stalling. The chum was finished in no time.
As stated in one of the reviews - be sure to oil (PAM, edible oil, etc.) the grinding plate to prevent it from rusting."

The best bang for the buck,November 4, 2009
By Rickmad82from Kingston, MA
"I bought this to start making my own Polish sausages as they are made in Poland since you cannot find decent Polish sausages around here. This will easily do 150lb per hour. I don't know about the stuffing feature as i also bought an 8lb stuffer from Northern Tool, which by the way is also great. This is an all around great grinder!"

Fulfills all expectations,November 2, 2009
By grinderguyfrom San Diego, CA
"I was very cautious about purchasing an electric meat grinder because of the horror stories that I read about other grinders. This one worked just fine. I cut the meat into 1" cubes, chilled it well (NOT frozen), and the grinder processed the meat as fast as I could feed it into the hopper. Plenty of power.
My next project was sausage. I must say that the directions regarding the sausage stuffing are confusing, perhaps even amusing. Since this grinder is so good, I thought I would rewrite the instruction book section for for sausage stuffing. (These instructions will be easier to understand once you have the grinder and the instruction book. The numbers refer to parts shown in the instruction book.)
1. Prepare sausage filling using meat grinder, or other filling as desired, and set aside. 2. Turn off and unplug unit. Remove the Cutting Plate (10-12) & the Cutting Blade (9) and set aside. 3. Insert the desired-size sausage funnel into sausage funnel collar. Place collar and funnel into Head (7). Tighten Cap (15). 4. Prepare casing per manufacturer’s instructions. Push the entire length of casing over the exterior of the sausage funnel. To prevent an initial air bubble, machine-feed filling until a little exits the sausage funnel. Tie off the end of the casing, and pull it back until the filling fills the end of the casing. 5. Fill Hopper Plate (6) and the Hopper Plate 6 exit tube (6) with filling and feed so that filling is smooth and continuous. 6. Turn on unit and fill casing. Prepare individual links as desired.
It's a great giz! Don't forget to make some salami !
Robert"

#12 electric grinder,November 2, 2009
By Jerkyfrom Texas
"Works better than expected. When I grind I start with the large plate and then go to the small one.I think it is faster, easier on the unit, to do it that way and you get a better mix.It has plenty of power .The unit is easy to maintain and clean.I've used many sizes of grinders in my meat processing years and,for the price, this unit ii well worth the money."

Meat Grinder,November 2, 2009
By TinMDfrom Perry Hall, MD
"I used this grinder for the first time this weekend. It worked perfectly. I made 30 pounds of sausage with it. I grinded the meat with the largest blade. It went through the whole batch in less than 5 minutes. It took longer to feed the meat into the grinder than the grinder took to process it. I then mixed the sausage and spices and ran it through a second time using a smaller plate. Again it worked perfectly. The whole time using the grinder there were never any slowdowns like I got with smaller grinders. I would definately recommend this to others."

Meat Grinder,November 2, 2009
By KPSCOfrom Colorado
"The grinder arrived two days ahead of the scheduled delivery date and was put to use about three weeks later. This was the first time I had tried processing my own elk and it went very well. We only kept the very choice cuts for roasts and steaks as we use a lot of burger. I ground about 75lbs of burger and even got brave and did about 25lbs of sausage. The grinder worked great, and was easy to clean."

great home grinder,October 19, 2009
By lomnifrom up state new york
"As a professional chef, I have used many pro. grade models in a kitchen. I was impressed how well this ground meat at home.and for the cost you can't go wrong. keep your meats ice cold and all is good. But as for sausage stuffer would have to give 3 stars. I had to get a stuffing plate (bean plate) for it. now I have a great home unit.!"

Ohh yeah,August 6, 2009
By Dreddifrom Hillsboro, Oregon
"This thing claims 176lbs an hour and it'll do it. It takes it in faster then I can feed it. I recommend cutting your meat into strips, the grinder will pull it right in. I did about 190lbs of beef that way and only had to use the push stick but once or twice. If you want to grind and grind in a hurry this is the machine that'll do it and not cost an arm and a leg."

Excellent Meat Grinder,July 20, 2009
By LAMeatGrinderfrom Los Angeles, CA
"This electronic meat grinder a great deal. I had been looking at this grinder an a meat grinding attachment for my kitchenaid. I opted for this grinder because all of the parts are made out of stainless steel as opposed to plastic. The only issue I had was the power button - it would create a flash inside the grinding motor. But I learned that the button was very sensitive and required just a gentle touch.
I recommend this grinder to anyone who prefers to eat their own fresh ground meats- great control on what is ground."

Raw feeders can do better,July 20, 2009

Excellent Product,July 20, 2009
By immyjay54from Hopwood, Pa.
"I've owned this product for a couple of years now and it does do a super job. I bought it in the first place because I had German Shepherd Dogs and was going to the raw feeding plan. I buy chicken leg quarters in the 10# bags and can run them right through this grinder bones and all. Done in no time, lickity spllit. Also, I take care of elderly/handicapped persons in my home and make lots of sandwiches for lunch. I buy the whole semi bonless hams when they come on sale and grind the whole ham (without bone of course) and freeze it in baggies then as needed make my own home made ham salad. Mighty tasty and cheaper than buying it from the stores. Thanks Northern Tool for such a super product."
