Good for the Money,

"Altho the door does not shut tightly I modified it by riveting a wood stove seal around the door and converted it over to propane by installing Item# 330973 propane burner. I also added a small pressure cooker with holes drilled into top for a smoke pot. Have had much success without water pan. I used to have a round brinkman that I did the same thing to, however being round it was a pain to get the food or racks in and out. This one being square makes that job much easier. No matter what smoker I owned, modification was a necessity to meet my personal expectations."

Brinkmann Vertical Smoker,
August 11, 2008

"To be short and to the point:
Quality of construction: average. The panels and door fit poorly, but well enough.
Design: better than average, but the area between the fire tray and water tray is insufficient. I take one grate out and place the water tray higher.
Function: I bought this for occasional large loads, but when there is a large amount of meat in it the temperature would not reach 200F. Used for 15-20 lbs of meat it might be sufficient, but it does work well to smoke 2-3 roasters or a pork shoulder.
Suggestions: Use with at most 1.2 capacity. Use Cowboy Charcoal or equivalent, never briquets. Use wood chunks (I cut 1/2 - 1" branches right from an apple tree!).

"the racks are nice and easy to clean. the only thing is i have a problem with keeping it hot, but i think this something that i have to work on. i like the drip pan of water it keeps everything clean and fire preventable. it is very light weight and easy to move around."

Smoker door falls off,
January 16, 2007
By DJSMOKER

"I bought one of these a couple of years ago - although it works well as a smoker, the front door has a tendency to fall off - the hinge (not really a hinge) doesn't keep the door on. You must be really carefull when operating it and opening the door.
But for about $100 it was still worth the money and an improvement over my old water smoker."

Not this one!,

"I received this as a Christmas gift and did not get to open it until a few days after.
Although the shipping box appeared to have no dammage, the unit was found to have a broken shelf bracket, a broken bolt holding the housing together and was somewhat distorted in its shape and relied on being set on a perfectly level spot in order for the door to shut properly. Furthermore, this unit has no air control device or any kind. In general it was designed and constructed poorly.
I am a mechanical engineer by profession and know that you can get great or inferior products from the import market. This is not a great one. I will be sending it back.
