Great little smoker!, November 2, 2009
By Xem1

"Bought this as a gift and both the recipient and I have gotten a lot of use out of it. I was surprised at how well salmon turned out and am looking forward to smoking turkey and even vegetables to make sauces. There are lots of recipes that you can find online. The cook time is surprisingly short and the product turns out moist, not dry at all. The other great thing about it is that it works really well for a small space and is easy to store when not in use. The only design aspect that I could possibly complain about is that it might be easier to add/remove food if there were a door on the side of the smoker, rather than having just a lid on the top."

NO Brainer, October 19, 2009
By TMAC42 from Broomfield, Co

"This is the smoaker for the beginner as well as a seasoned pro. You really can't miss with this unit. Simply set the electric control to desired Temp add a handfull,(Yes I said just a Handfull) of wood chips and smoke your favorite meat to a perfect finish. The only downside to this smoker is that It dosen't come with an elaborate cook book. But if you set the control to To Med and follow a cook books baking time per lb your pretty close. I Smoked 9 lb. of Tri Tip in 40min on High and next time will use the Med. setting for a more rare finish. Why spend more this smoker will do as good a job at half the cost."

Great smoker for the price, October 19, 2009
By cheaplabor from Raleigh Area NC

"Works well and produces excellent meat. Smoking chips in the bottom burned a bit more than expected. We have used this for chicken and pork. Recommend wrapping the pork up tightly as it was a bit dry. Overall, a very good product."

Stainless Steel Smoker, March 16, 2009
By SlocombChef from Slocomb, Alabama

"This item is a very easy to use smoker. I have many years of experience with electric smokers and would recommend several tries with this unit to get used to the cooking times of different meats. I like the variable heating range and the easy access to the cooking racks. The unit is a good price for the quality of unit. I would recommend it for most lazy cooks."

Great Product & arrived on time!, January 7, 2009
By Hurshybar from Billings, MT

"After reviewing several different brands& types, I settled on this particular smoker. Unlike other postings by people, my smoker arrived intact and was very easy to put together. I smoked Christmas dinner with a 16 lb turkey and it was done in 2.5 hours....with it being below zero outside & on med. heat!! I left it in for that amount of time and it was golden brown....left it in for an additional 2 hours for more of a smoky flavor with the lid cracked and the meat practically fell off the bone. Will be definitely using it more in the future! You won't reqret your purchase!!!

One tip: If basting or injecting meat, let it merinate overnite...wish I had for a stronger flavor.

Great for beginner, December 30, 2008
By nneysari from Milford, Ohio

"I wanted to start smoking meat with something fairly inexpensive since I was not sure if it's something I'll be doing all the time so I purchased the old smokey. It is a great smoker for the money. Two things to keep in mind, 1- Don't cook the meat on high, It will burn the meat. Try between midium and high, It will keep the temp right around 225 degrees. I bought a over thermometer for couple of dollars which works really good. Keep the temp between 200 to 225. 2- Wrap the bowl in an aluminium foil to keep it clean. Juices and spices from meat will burn and stick to the bowl, it is very difficult to wash it off. I have smoked beef brisket and baby back ribs. My family and friends liked it so much so that I have the job of making ribs and briskets for new years eve dinner. Very happy with the purchase."

Needs suggested recipes, but works well, August 15, 2008
By BBandSB from Idaho

"Our smoker arrived w/minor scratches, but was structuraly fine. The first thing I tried was smoked salmon. The smoker worked great, but I think it would've been better if I hadn't cooked the fish to death--though the aroma was fantastic! :) The only suggestion I have about this smoker is for the company to have better/more recipe recommendations since it cooks a little different than some other smokers. Trial and error can get expensive."

Smokey Joe, August 11, 2008
By wplooney from Santa Clarita, CA.

"I have used this electric smoker twice now, once for a brisket and the second time I did spare ribs. Both times everyone that ate raved about the meat. I used a dry rub both times. What they say about not needing water is very true. I found out the hard way. I used water and spicec for the brisket and it almost over-flowed. The brisket was smoked in half the time and 2 slabs of ribs only took about 3+ hours. The cover seals in the smoke so that you don't even know the smoker is working. Very little smoke escapes the smoker, leaving a nice flavor to the meat. The advantage over a charcoal smoker is that this smoker requires little/no watching of the food. I live in an area (high desert of California) that is routinely over 100 degrees in the summer and once this smoker is on I can stay in the house, watch the game and not worry about the wood and coals."

Good Smoker, Good Price, August 11, 2008
By Smiles117 from Youngstown, OH

"This is the first electric smoker I have used. It is very easy to use and the food comes out great. The only problem I see is from the booklet. In some of the recipes it tells you to cook on high (DO NOT COOK ON HIGH). Cook on low to medium and you will have great tasting, moist food every time. It is a great little smoker for the price. ENJOY!!!"

Great little smoker!!, July 25, 2008
By Planner from Finger Lakes NY

"So easy! Food is moist, delicious, and there is virtually no cleanup. The enclosed lid keeps the moisture in, and the drippings in the pan make delicious sauce. Bought one for my business partner. Can't wait to combine meals, and exchange recipes."

old smokey, April 16, 2008
By Leelah from Alberta, Canada

"good delivery, the order was unreasonably delayed. When contacted by a
by NT customer service rep with a first name email, I'd
thougt I'd been taken for my credit card number . Worked out and NT still
proves excellent for delivery and service.

The smoker is delivered as as described. Lower then recommended temperatures work better.

Not a true-blue :) smoker unit but will pass for the beginner.

You'll soon be looking for on-line construction details if you get the bug. Don't do the ugly fridge repo as the neighbors gag!

I use it for a bird smoker. Low smoke flavor and even temp.

It's a slow cooker/baker without using liquid smoke but not more than that.

I'm very satisfied with the paying price, and my expectations were set by smoking
(intermediate) experience.

Very Well-Built Product, April 14, 2008
By cottonmoe from Church hill, TN

"I received my Old Smokey Electric Smoker shortly after ordering online from the Northern Tool & Equipment website. It was packed very sturdily and arrived with absolutely NO damage. The instructions were very easy to follow, even for a fumble-fingers like me, and took less than 20 minutes to assemble. The smoker arrives with EVERYTHING you need to start smoking immediately out of the box except for the groceries. I have had good luck with the smoker so far and plan on putting it to the ultimate test for our upcoming 15th Annual Memorial Day BBQ Cookout."

Love this smoker!!, February 3, 2008
By Pags from Rutherfordton, North Carolina

"I have had several smokers in the past, both electric and charcoal/wood. This smoker lives up to all my expectations. Arrived in great condition and is easy to put together . I smoke a lot of sausages, turkeys, beef, venison, and fish. Food is moist and the saying, "Set it and forget it" applies. Clean up is easy by putting racks in the dishwasher. Highly recommend it to anyone who loves to barbeque, smoke cook, or make jerky. Holds a lot of food for a small smoker."

MEETS ALL MY EXPECTATIONS!!, January 14, 2008
By STrexler from Littleton, CO

"I purchased the "Old Smokey" electric smoker in early December to smoke Christmas turkeys. The product arrived about a week after I ordered it. Since the purchase, I've smoked 2 turkeys and both were outstanding. The meat was so tender, moist, and flavorful that I couldn't resist sneaking into the refrigerator during the day and grabbing me a snack. The smoke taste was absolutely fabulous; and the best part of all was that the cooking was so easy. Considerably easier than my old charcoal smoker. After preparing the birds per the enclosed directions, I just put them in "Old Smokey" and turned it on. In both cases the turkeys were done well before the directions said they would be. Easy, Easy, Easy. I plan on smoking me a nice brisket this weekend. Umm Umm Umm. Can't wait until it's done."
