#5500 Pellet Heater

"Having used the stove for primary heating for 4 months (Nov & Dec being colder than normal), I am very pleased. The cost of pellets will be about 1/3 the cost of heating oil. I will recoop the cost of the stove early next winter.
My problems with the stove have been minimal. If you forget to fill the stove with pellets, it will stop heating!! Sometimes the stove will not self ignite. I use a propane torch in those situations. The problem with reignitions seems to be from not cleaning around the fire tray. You definitely need a vaccum cleaner to clean it well. The quality of pellets vary; I used 1 ton that fouled the fire tray weekly. Generally it will go 2 weeks between cleaning.
The stove claims to hold 150 lbs of pellets; but, I find that three 40# bags will totally fill it. Even during very cold Vermont weather, it only needs to be filled once a day."

Good features, a bit noisy

"Been using this stove for over a year now - burns great. It DOES have a hookup for a standard external thermostat to toggle between low and your pre-set heat setting (1-9). The control electronics are very well thought out. Even though the preprogrammed settings were OK, I wanted to adjust burn and feed rates manually for a lower quality pellet, and the factory tech support was GREAT! Easy to clean. If it were a little quieter and had a time-delay start or a thermostat start, it would be perfect. Even as it is I would recommend it."

New to pellet stoves

,

"We got really tired of cutting, splitting, hauling and stacking wood and we saw someone with a pellet stove. We asked some questions and did a little investigation on the Internet and decided a pellet stove is just so much easier and cleaner than a wood stove.
We only received it and installed it a few days ago, but right after installing it, the weather turned really cold, even for the northeast. We're now selling our wood stove, remaining wood and log splitter.
A pellet stove is really the way to go. This one is perfect for us; our house is only 1372 sq. ft. and this stove is just right."

Nice heat, but a little noisy

,

"I bought 2 of these pellet stoves, 1 for upstairs and 1 for downstairs. The plan is to keep our gas furnace thermostat on 60 and run these to keep the house warm on the floor where we currently are hanging out... no need to heat the whole house if the family is upstairs or down.
I knew nothing about pellet stoves when I started, but using the literature that came with the units, installation was simple. Product started on the first try and has worked flawlessly so far (have had them only a month). I bought all the needed chimney parts at Menard's.
The thing I didn't consider when I bought on line was the noise level of the blowers. That's a draw back. It's not terrible, but you'll be turning the tv up a couple of notches.
A nice feature would be to have a thermostat that you could set to 70 degrees and have the stove auto start and stop. This stove does not have that feature. It has a heat setting from 1-9 which controls how fast the pellets drop, but knows nothing about the temperature in the room.
Over all a good value and a good product and the new favorite spot in our house is curled up with a book in front of the stove."
