Sarlo 30" mower

"I bought this machine about two months ago primarily to use in my tiny hobby orchard (about 1/2 acre and 40 trees). The machine arrived in about ten days, well packed and in perfect condition. There are very limited instructions for the minor assembly required, but I found it intuitive and had it fully assembled and running in about 45 minutes. The only stall was figuring out how the clutch rod was intended to be installed. Once I tried it a couple wrong ways, I quickly realized how it went (there are only a few possible combinations). Once assembled, I added oil and fuel and she roared to life with a couple pulls of the starter. The machine works excellent around my somewhat cramped orchard, having the multiple speeds is very helpful and to date has performed excellent. This line of machines is reminiscent of the old Yazoo mowers from the '70s and early '80's. In fact I used an old 26" Yazoo up until it wore out a year or so ago. Initial impression is that the Sarlo is a very well built, robust machine and if anything is better built than the old Yazoo line. I would unhesitatingly recommend this machine."

Great for getting the job done quickly

"I like this mower's 30 inch deck and 3 speed transmission. The third gear is great, makes mowing my half acre of grass a quick job. About an hour.
I have an acre lot with lots of landscape islands. This mower has great balance with the engine at the rear, it is very easy to pivot. The third gear is a nice fast walking speed and yet the single blade has no problem with making an even cut. I've owned a rider before for yards of similar size. The thing I've noticed with riders is that when cutting at the higher speeds, the cut gets uneven. Not with this mower.
Sometime the third gear is too fast for detail edging work, second gear works great for the edging.
The only trade-off I've noticed is with the narrow high wheel tires bearing the weight of the engine, you see the tire lines in your lawn. It can be minimized by offsetting your wheel path on the return strip, not letting the tires travel in the previous wheel path. The tires are offset far enough inward that you will not lose any cutting width.
One nice thing I miss about having a rider is that you have a PTO to engage-disengage the mower blades and keep the engine running to propel the mower. With this simple design, you have to shut off the engine to stop the blades. With the engine off you have no power to use the self propel. But I also think that having the simpler design will make this mower more reliable.
I would recommend a bit better detail with assembly instructions. The rod that connects the lever to the drive assembly seems to be a fit that feels like it is binding too much.
This mower is solidly built and I think it will last a good long time for me. I would recommend this mower to anyone with a larger yard."
