Treader works great, dies need help

,

"Got this for Christmas last year so i could replace some piping in my sons house that has steam heat. The threader itself works great. you have to really hang on because the torque is unbelievable when threading large pipes. the included pipe clamp works ok on larger pipes but will spin on the smaller ones. I usually just stick the pipe in a pipe vice that is bolted to a large heavy table and hang on. Dies, the larger ones seem to do fine but the 1/2" and 3/4" dies just tear up the threads it just cut. i have an old cheap hand threader and the dies from it fit and work just fine. thread cutting oil (dark Rigid brand) works slightly better than motor oil. 90w might even work better than the real thread cutting oil. -- You can't put too much oil on the threads. As it spins i am pumping the can every time the opening comes around. -- best to have a helper do this for you. I've threaded about 50 ends with it so far. Ohh, and the reversing lever jams real bad using the included pipe clamp. you have to wiggle it and tap the switch a few times to get it to reverse that or loosen the clamp move the lever then re-tighten the clamp."

"Bought tool for light use. Tool itself is fine. Dies were junk. 1" worked fine - 3/4" and 1/2" both fell apart on first use."

As good as one costing over twice as much

"Purchased for a fairly large, but one time project. Did not want to pay almost 3 times as much as a better known brand since it would be sitting on a shelf for a long time after project was completed. We have rented in the past. This is just as good, just as strong, and gives professional results. It could be used every day, and we think it is even better than the top brand that we had rented."

"A little heavy but works for around the house/farm use. The dies are standard so replacements are easy and the motor has plenty of torque. Great price for the item."

portable threaders

"i am in the process of buying a new threader for (1) of my trucks the guys run through them far too often to spend the kind of money that rigid wants for a handheld threader so this is perfect for them. it handles all the sizes that they would need for the service call situation we have the big brother for on site jobs. hope its all they crack it up to be. i'll report back after we beat it a bit"
