Good value, good saw,
November 2, 2009

"A few months back my Stihl ms250 started running bad. At well over $300 (16") I expected it to last more than one firewood season (personal firewood only), but it didn't. Now I have a PP 20" for about half the price and am very pleased. It does take a couple more pulls to start but always does. For the first few trees it requires you to adjust the chain fairly often as the new chain stretches, it only takes about 15 seconds to do so it isn't a deal breaker. The chain did come off once when I waited too long to adjust it, but it doesn't require tools to put it back on, so not a deal breaker either. The fuel and oil levels stay even & the caps do not require tools. Runs strong and cut faster then my old saw.
I havn't used it for logging yet but its been a perfect saw for clearing dense hardwood trees off a couple acres of forest where I'm planting fruit trees & garden."

Poulan chain saw,
October 23, 2009
By Cedarwhacker

"For occassional home use this saw is not a bad value. The chain tighting mechanism is poorly designed and it throws chains way more than it should. Due to starting problems and the cheap design, this is the last Poulan product I will ever buy."

Not really Pro quality,

"I have used this off and on for about two years now. I also have a Stihl of the same size. Yes the Stihl costs twice as much but believe me it is worth it. The Poulan is always needing repairs, throws chains, and is very difficult to adjust the chain tension properly because the tensioning device will not hold until you can tighten the nuts. Also the fuel and oil caps need pliers to remove. The chain needs resharpening almost continously compared with the Sthil. It is also hard to start much of the time and wore out the starting spindle."

"Received chain saw and couldn't get it to stay running. Found out the engine was blown before we got it. Poulan replaced the engine in it at their cost and now it runs like a dream! It is great for intermediate cutting, nothing too large though. After the rough start we had, it was worth the money."

Poulan lemon,
January 10, 2008
By Obed
from houston texas
"I purchased this saw for light work around my 40 acre farm.... the saw runs great and has plenty of power... but.. you can not keep it in working order.. the problem is a very poor chain adjustment design... in very short order the tab that moves the chain breaks... I have had it break on me twice... I took it to the factory rep here in Houston and they tell me that this is one saw they will not sell as they all break... it is a flimsy mechanism. If the factory rep won't sell it, that ought to tell you something... I do not blame this on northern tool, they have been great in helping me on this, but they can not fix the problem.... spend a little more money and get one of their better quality saws...."

great deal for the pirce,

"We use this saw in our lawn care business for fallen limbs and occasional fallen tree due to storms. Came with it's own case and guide.
We used it right off the bat to cut a 16" round tree 50' or so high and cut the tree complete and removed debri in 1 1/2 hours. Had to stop once to sharpen the chain, and 3 times to tighten the chain. The chain oiled great automatically and it was super easy to tighten up the chain.
This saw was a good deal for the buck. Starts fairly easy, good cutting if you keep your chain sharp, but you should do that anyway.
Good smooth cutting, RPMs aren't as high as some of the higher priced chain saws but it still gives you a comfortable handling while in use.
We would recommend this to anyone but loggers that cut for a living. Good all around saw for the buck."

Poulan Pro,

"I would rate this as a pretty good saw for the price. Came with case, instructions, oil and bar tool. Does not rev as high as some of the more expensive brands but has a nice steady cut. The 20" bar is great for limbing. saw is fairly light, starts well. I would recommend this for part time users, around the yard or small farm enviroments. The case with the saw is a good deal."
