Husqvarna 16" Chain Saw

,

"I replaced my Husqvarna 136 16" saw that was 12 years old. This one is as light, starts as good and handles well. I was concerned when I saw so many 435's reconditioned, but this 440e doesn't seem to have any reconditioned ones, and it appears to have slightly different specs, so hopefully it will go as long as my last one."

Good saw for size...

"I have this saw, and a Stihl MS 290. Both are good saws with differences. The Husqvarna 440 is a very good saw that is quite capable of cutting large logs if the owner is dilligent with maintenance. I have found that if one cleans the air filter regularly, and keeps the chain sharp- that means sharpening it while still pretty sharp, before it dulls, it will cut through most everything. Sharpen every tooth on both sides with a 3/16 file or stone on a dremel or other variable speed rotary tool before every use. As with all chain saws, keep the chain out of the dirt, and away from anything other than wood. If this saw has a dull chain, the 41cc engine can not power through moderately hard wood. If you keep the chain sharp, it does most jobs very well, and deserves a five star rating. Mine bogged down after a few uses, and that problem was quickly corrected by cleaning the screen air filter. I suggest cleaning it every few times out, even if it looks clean to the eye. Simple enough to do, and it will return your favor by running perfectly for you. The Husq chain tensioning system is great. The locking nut is incorporated into a hand tightening mechanism, making use of a wrench obsolete. Nice idea, and it works. This review is for the Husqvarna, not the Stihl, and the reason I use the Husq first on trips out to the woods is because of the weight. It's a great saw that is light weight. You can run this saw for hours without fatigue. If I clip the ground while limbing a downed tree, or if I run it out of fuel, I switch to the Stihl, and it has much more power with it's 56.5cc engine. The larger engine translates to more power, but also to more fatigue operating it. Both saws can kick back if cutting with the end of the bar, but the power difference makes the Husqvarna somewhat safer, since handling the torque is easier with the smaller engine. If you can avoid it, just don't cut with the tip of the bar (standard bar is 16", so you won't have to use the entire bar unless you cut a log with a larger diameter than that). Use common sense with any chain saw. As I said in my opening, I have two saws that are different, but both are good saws. The Husqvarna 440 will treat you right if you treat it right. Highly recommended."

"This saw is light and well balanced making it easy and safe to handle. If you follow the instructions it is amazingly easy to start and restart. The largest tree I have dispatched so far is a 12" maple and it handled it with no problems. I highly recommend it for the weekend user."

Cuts like a dream

"This saw is good and as I said above it cuts like a hot knife through butter.
The price was also good.
I only found a little on the minus side it is hard to start and after it is started sometimes it will idle and other times it won't. I double checked mixture and levels. The chain oil-er seems to allow a little more oil than needed and it runs down onto the stand when you sit it down. I am researching now where I can get the special wrench needed to adjust the hi-lo idle run.

Great chainsaw

"light weight, easy start, quality from the start. I Need to clear many (100 +) small to mid sized (30 foot or shorter) pines before "fire season" gets here. Did my first real run at it since the saw arrived, I was half way done in under 2 hours. I'm impressed, sorry I didn't get a "real" chainsaw years ago!
Tool-less chain tensioning is the best! I hope it doesn't make cleaning bar or changing chain any harder.

Husqvarna 440E

"I now own six Husqvarna saws, including the 440E. Even my 1970's vintage Model 65 still runs and cuts like a monster. I wanted a lighter, easy to handle saw for lighter work and limb cutting, and I wanted a Husqvarna for sure. After careful thought, I chose the 440E. What a great saw. It starts easy, doesn't require much attention and cuts like a bigger saw. My friends are already wanting one. If you want to save your back and arms and still cut alot of wood, this is the right saw in the 16 inch class."
