For open center systems. Relief valve adjustable to 2750 PSI, preset at 2250 PSI, flow rating up to 25 gal./min. Our most popular log splitter valve. Spring centered in one direction, pressure released detent in the other direction. Automatically kicks back to neutral when cylinder completes stroke. Built-in relief valve ports. Hydraulic balanced, hard chrome plated spool. Handle can be installed in “up” or “down” position. Detent release pressure adjustable from 600 to 2000 PSI. "this vave works good and seem to be well made and worked good for my use but it dosnt have a open center as Im using it to control a motor and it stops the motor when its in neutral,but this is OK as I have fond it to be a safer way to run my motor"

"This valve works great on the log splitter I put it on! The detent position works especially well when your splitting alone. I have used it for a few months now and would recommend it to anyone! I paired it with the haldex 11 gpm 2-stage pump and the splitter is really solid."

"I purchased this Dentent Vallve to be used on my wood splitter. The previous valve was the exact same thing. It lasted a very long time. I can't begin to tell you how many times this lever has been forward and backward to split wood. This splitter was my Dad's and I don't know when he put it on. I do know it is not the original one. He passed in 1994, and it was on there probably 10 years before that. If this one gives me the service that one did it will be a good one. I am doubting that will happen. I purchased this valve in Feb of 09, on the very back of the valve where the clip is located, I am seeing fluid leaking here. I really should contact Northern to see about a replacement. It works perfectly if not for this small leak."

"This is the perfect setup for your homemade splitter or would be great as a replacement valve.I have not messed with the pressure set by the factory as it is plenty.Ease of installation and use for a 5" cylinder and 16 gpm pump make this the ideal setup."

"This replaced a non-detent valve on a wood splitter I rebuilt from scratch. It was a perfect replacement & very well made (and made in the USA). Works perfectly. I got the "Buyers Return Line Filter - 20 GPM Capacity" and an extra filter at the same time.
Photos of the completed project attached. Although replacing the valve only would have been easy, I decided to rebuild and relocate all the controls so that they are more convenient for the user.
Note installation of the 12 inch high splitter wedge -- also ordered from Northern Tool!"

"Used this valve on a homemade logsplitter I made for my son. It is powered from the hydraulic system of our little loader/backhoe tractor.
It was very easy to install, and works great!!
Also used a Haldex pump and Lovejoy coupling from Northern, on the tractor, to replace the old pto pump with live hydraulics!"

"This control valve is a great value. It works great on the log splitter that I built. I only have about 15 hours on the valve with no troubles. It is very easy to adjust if you need to ( I have a preasure gauge in line after the pump). If you are building a splitter or replacing an old valve, you can't go wrong with this one."

"I bought the slitter valve last spring and once I got it hooked up with a new honda engine and a new pump that I had I was very happy the way the valve worked. the detent feature is super.I have recomended this pump to people that are thinking about building a new splitter.Not only for the valve but the price was also great.Delivery was on time and instructions were easy to follow."

"I've been using this valve since 2004 on an awesome log-splitter that I built. I've never messed with the settings on it and it has worked flawlessly. I especially like the detent for the return. It now has a few hundred hours on it, and NO leaks. I might add that most of the other stuff on the splitter, including the 16 GPM two-stage pump, wedge, cylinders, cylinder mounts, clevis-pins, hydraulic reservoir, filter, 40 X 48 utility trailer, hitch coupler, trailer dolly, trailer-feet, and spare tire all came from Northern. Building this thing was a blast and it was nice to be able to buy even the smallest EXACT part that I needed. I spent a whole winter building it and ordered the parts as I needed them. I never had a problem with Northern and never had to return anything. This splitter is vertical or horizontal, at least 25 tons, with power-tilt and stabilizers and it draws a crowd when I stop to gas up or eat! Check out the pictures. I did buy my own paint... I have more pictures..."
