Hooks don't hold onto the door-frames as tightly as I'd hoped. Once the doors are shut they are very secure, but when a door is open, the hook at that point is very easy to dislodge.
They're strong enough and you can make them tight enough to hold a fair amount of weight. I tied down three 10-ft 2x8s and twelve 8-ft studs (2x4s), and drove at 40 mph with no noticeable wobble or flutter, but I wouldn't want to drive at highway speeds with anything longer than about 6 feet.
One complaint. The hooks compress the car's rubber door-frame insulation strips, so that when you get up to highway speed there is a lot of road-noise. My wife can't stand that noise, so I can't use the rack if she is in the car.
Does it work? Yeah, pretty well. But it has drawbacks.
