Torin Large cart: Mobile Storage

"I have been tearing down an engine and was told that I need to keep the garage clear and clean; which basically meant a car has to fit in it. I've started tearing down a Mopar 273 engine and the 904 transmission to it and needed something that would hold all, or the majority, of the parts from the engine during the tear down.
I decided to try the Torin Large cart because of the weight rating and the price. Assembly of the unit was done within an hour, and as recommended on another post, having extra washers for the attaching screws and the casters would be a good thing. After getting the unit together, it's been sturdy.
The rotating casters feature a locking mechanism that I like because it's more of a "pedal" style lock (lock with toes by pushing down, unlock with toes pulling up) vs. the sea saw style on some other rotating casters. So far so good.
As mentioned in a previous post, the shelves in it are a little bit wavy under load (see pics of transmission & Top half of engine.) They also are bent and not tack welded together. The edges are rolled over, which makes loading things on and pushing them over easier.
The handle is a little bit cheesy in that it feels too light and too hollow to push/pull the cart under load. Using the same screws to attach the handle and the rails to the cart makes me wonder if I'm going to be replacing this soon.
At 600 lbs I'm not throwing the block on it, but just the accessories. So far so good.

Poor Quality

"I purchased this item rather than one of the plastic foam models to save a few dollars. However the metal in the trays is thin gauge and will dent easily. To prevent this, the trays must be lined with some type of protective liner. The packaging is also poor consisting of just a cardboard box with no other protection for the metal. So the probability for damage during shipping is high and mine arrived damaged but I kept it rather than return it. Another problem is that the washers on the screws required for assembly are inadequate; the lock washers need to be larger and I will be making a trip to the hardware store to find these. After you get the correct hardware, after you assemble this, and after you line the trays, you will have some more money and time invested. Given the inferior quality, additional costs, and time, the savings if any is minimal. Considering that tools are a lifetime investment, if I had to do it all over again, then I would definitely purchase one of the plastic foam models."

Perfect for what I wanted.

"I bought this to put a radial arm saw on in my shop so I could roll it around or out in the driveway. It works great. I drilled a hole in the non-handled end for the up and down crank to go through and put my accessories for the saw (blades, wrench, moulding head, drum sander, etc.) in the tray below so it all stays together. Got it on sale and very pleased. If you are looking for something to drop a engine block on, then this isn't it, but for general utility use I would recommend to anyone."

Almost Great

"I like the cart -- good wheels and decent size for moving or holding tools, parts, etc. My only criticism is the handle and brackets. They're too flimsy for moving the cart around when loaded. The brackets can bed to the side and disengage the tube handle. One thing you can do is drill a hole in the side of each bracket and use a length of threaded rod and washers/nuts to reinforce the assembly. I also cut plywood to drop into the bottom of the trays, to absorb any oil and distribute loading more evenly."
