The guy who said it was junk was misleading... I ordered the "missing" part as suggested. I elevated my "medium" bucket about 7' and had a gradual spiral to my work elevation trying to keep the sand tube from being lower than the ultimate blasting level. I had a competent helper to keep the (elevated) sand bucket filled and to place my pieces conveniently in front of me. I was cleaning some 25 yr old bent /welded steel porch furniture of good quality. We had attempted this several times through the years due to my coastal environment. The past efforts were wire wheel brushes which never quite knocked the rust off of the welds and heated bends. This thing worked remarkably well, and saved a ton of time/labor expense ! My wife is a happy lady tonight , and I will be well fed ...
First off when I purchased this I didn't know that I needed the $6.00 water nozzle to actually use it. The description in the catalog should say "requires item #xxxx for use with our pump #xxx".
The unit will start to work then water starts going back up the sand feed tube. As soon as you get water in the sand tube you might as well pack it up for the day as the sand will clog as soon as it gets wet.
I used this on both my 13HP Honda pump and my 20 hp V twin pump and neither one would work right.
This product did exactly what I bought it for. I wanted to clean old anti-fouling paint off of a boat hull for re-painting. Careful use took the old paint without damaging the gel coat any more than sandpaper would. It takes a pretty good machine to power it. No wimpy electric washers.
This unit requires more pressure and volume than the other units sold by Northern. At least 4gpm @1800-2500 Lbs. I used this unit at 4 gpm @ 3500 Lbs and at 8Gpm @1500 Lbs. The higher volume works better has wider sray pattern. It does not come with nozzels it uses 1/4 pipe thread type. May be hard to get local order with blaster. Overal works well if you have a large washer unit. Only complaint 3/4 hose that comes with unit is very stiff and will break if kinked.
