Poorly Designed Food Slicer

"Bought this slicer about two weeks ago. The motor is too weak to slice much of anything. It barely cuts sandwich meats and cheese. It will not cut bread because the blade doesn't have any teeth. When slicing the food falls off the back and you have to catch it with your hands. I tried using a paper towel and plate - neither worked. You can only clean one side of the blade unless you take it totally apart. So clean up is very time consuming."

More toy than tool

"When I opened the box, I was very favorably impressed with the appearance of the slicer. It really looked sturdy, but that turned out to be a false impression.
I unpacked it, washed the blade and carriage, prepared to slice meat. When I turned on the slicer, I got a busy buzzing sound, but the blade did not turn.
I opened the bottom of the slicer - six screws - to see what was wrong, and found that the plastic mount that held the electric motor had broken. Upon inspection, I noted that the broken piece was very thin. It just looked flimsy, and experience had already proven this to be true.
Even if it had not arrived hors de combat, I seriously doubt if it would have served for long, as flimsy as it was.
On the plus side is Northern's superb customer service. One phone call got me a prepaid return label. Credit was issued to my CC promptly. I did not, however, choose to replace the slicer with a similar model.
