POOR Design

"I assembled the unit out of the box and quickly learned it helps to have 2 people. It was assembled in about 45 min. by myself. Found no operating instructions, so I e-mailed Swisher and have got no response thus far. On foodplot planting day is where the problem started. I got about 50 yards into the field and the weld on the arm linkage that rotates the wheels back and lifts the planter broke. Absolutly no weld penetration into the steel. Had to go back to the house and get 2 small blocks of 4"x4" wood to block up the arms so the planter was movable. Had to take back to the house and reweld part correctly. While attempting to plant found that corn seed sometimes falls out of the seed box. Seed corn is not cheap. Then it was hard to get just 1 seed in the seed bed at a time. More than 1 seed in the seed bed and they may not be uniform in distance apart. Soil must be perfect and absolutly no grass clumps or it will bunch up in front of seed blades and drag the bed wide open and leave the seed exposed. They use a paintbrush screwed into seedbox wall to keep seed from falling out. I wonder if John Deere does it this way. With some work you could probably make it work ok, but i didnt buy it to redesign it. I cannot recommend this planter."

"My friend and I purchased this unit and from the moment I opened the crate I knew it was a piece of junk. With little assembly I put this together and I reconfirmed my thoughts about it being junk.. Very poorly made but I gave it a chance and took it to the farm and started to put in the corn and bean mix for my food plot. Did I mention that it did not come with any kind of a operators manual? Well it didn't !!! I hooked it up to my ATV and started to make my first pass and this thing just became the biggest nightmare on wheels.. The digging points get clogged very fast and the corn stays in the tube not making it to the ground... When they did make it to the ground they never got buried under the soil and the first rock that I encountered the digging points turned backwards and filled up with more dirt.. This thing is garbage.. The handle that lifts the planter up so you can move from one field to the next broke at the weld and now I can't move it around because it is in the ready to plant mode.. My friend called Northern tool and told them the story and we are now in the process of returning this hunk of junk back... DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY ON THIS BEAST... I'd be better off planting by hand then to use this thing.. Oh I almost forgot, the chains that drive the gear for planting kept popping off the spocket... STAY AWAY FROM THIS !!!!!!!!!!!"
