Toasty Warm

The heater was easy to install and, once some minor glitches were attended to, was able to maintain my two car garage at about 50 degrees F when the outside temperature was zero degrees F and windy....and when the outside temp is 20 or 30 degrees, it raised the garage temp to 60 degrees or more.
Having gotten this at the tail end of the last winter...I had not had a chance to install and use it until this year when extreme cold was forecast. Upon first turning it on, I discovered that when the fan blade had been installed on the motor shaft, it was not spaced far enough from the metal grill, resulting in a big "thunk" when the blade hit the grille. After relocating the fan on the shaft so it would clear the grille, the unit functioned, albeit with a bit of vibration, no doubt due to the fan being slightly bent when it hit the grille. Probably would have been a good idea to fire it up as soon as I received it....it would be difficult to complain about a defect over a year after receiving it...
All in all..it is much more convenient than the kerosene heater it replaced.

Great, flexible garage heater

Bought this to heat a 2 1/2 car insulated garage - basically to keep it at about 45 degrees. Didn't want a permanent wall-mounted unit, even though this model can be mounted to the wall. This unit can sit on the floor, which is what I wanted, but it's difficult to move around since it doesn't have any kind of handle. I mounted it to a piece of plywood 3 inches wider and longer than the base and put small casters on the bottom so that I can easily roll it out of the way when not in use or to aim the heat in a specific direction. This unit keeps the garage at the required temperature even on the low setting in very cold, windy outdoor temperatures. However, even on the HIGH setting, it does take some time to bring the heat up if it is very cold in the garage. If you want to warm the garage up in a hurry, be prepared to wait! I had to run an electric circuit (had a 30 amp unused breaker in the panel) with #10 gauge wire and the correct receptacle, kind of pain to get it from the panel through the ceiling in the basement and through the crawl space into the garage. The heater seems to be built pretty good, except that I had a fan delay relay failure on the second day of operation. Had to run it with the fan on continuous until I got a replacement relay from Cadet - it's easy to replace in the bottom of the unit. The only other thing that I think would be an improvement is the thermostat. It is not graduated or stepped in any way - just an infinite dial and you have to play around with the setting for a while to determine where to set it. I have taken a fine-point Magic Marker and made temperature indications on the front panel around the dial to make this easier for me. All in all, I think this is a very nice unit - you won't find very many like this one on the market. More expensive than ceiling-mounted units, but "portable" (if you have the electric receptacle available) and it can be stored away when not in use.

Very impressed with this heater. East to mount and use. Believe it's only rated for 600 sq ft, and it heats my 1000 sq ft garage very well. Have had it up to 60 degrees when it was below 20 degrees outside.
