"We bought this hitch for a heavy duty bike carrier and it works really well. The clip noted with the picture comes with it in the box. The staff was really helpful and assessing what we needed. Thanks Northern!"

Solid Construction--Attractive Price--Good Product

"From reading other reviews before I bought this hitch adapter, I knew that it might not fit in my 2" receiver tightly, and I confirmed this after purchasing the item. So, I employed the quick, easy, inexpensive solution and wrapped the adapter with just enough black electrical tape (about 4-5 rounds) to allow the adapter to fit snugly into the 2" receiver. This keeps my hitch-mounted bicycle rack quite steady.
Someday, I might take the time to drill and tap a hole in the side of the adapter to allow a pinch bolt to totally eliminate all unwanted movement within the hitch."

"I bought this to go along with a splitter I also bought. I wanted to be able to carry both my hitch basket and my bike rack on the same hitch. This fits and the bike rack fits in it. This allows me to maxamize the utility of my SUV."

Works Well

"This works well, a little loose in the 2" Tube, but it is totally secure and safe for towing. I used it to plug in a Bike Carrier and it worked well even though it "Floated" around a little."

Works fine

"It is a little loose - Everything I have ever plugged into any hitch was either too loose or too tight. So, I did what I have done with every hitch I have owned - Tapped a 5/16 inch threaded hole in the hitch on my truck, tightened down a bolt that presses against the adapter, and now it is tight and secure. This also deters theft."

Little loose

"As a previous reviewer advised, the hitch adapter was a bit wobbly, but two wraps (3 was too many) of electrical tape before and after the hitch pin hole tightened it up nicely. Now I can finally use my 1-1/4" bike rack again. Thank you, Northern."

Hitch Adapter

,
August 11, 2008
By Kalle
from Miami
"The adapter works well with very little excess play. Simply put, it does the job.
The only (slight) disadvantage, which is nearly unavoidable, is that when the adapter is inserted it extends the length of the receiver, thereby increasing downward leverage on the hitch. I think a different design would be feasible. One which extends the length of the receiver much less. But overall, this is a good adapter that presents no major problems.

Hitch Adapter

,
July 9, 2007
By BlueMinivan
from Richmond, VA
"I bought the hitch adapter to use a hitch-mounted bicycle rack we already had for a Subaru wagon with a 1 1/4" hitch receiver. I wanted to use it with a new Honda minivan with a 2" hitch receiver. It slid in easily and handled the bike rack, but it wobbled back and forth a bit more than I liked. If the tolerances were tighter, it may not have fit in and out as easily, though. Overall, it's no issue- the thing is very solid, so we'll continue using it. It's nice and compact, and it comes with a large diameter pin and clevis. That pin and clevis don;t lock, however, so potentially someone could steal the adapter and my bike rack (with bikes locked to it- but that would be quite a job."

"The adaptor would not slid into the receiver smoothly. After I got it in I needed a hammer to get it out. After grinding down the high edges it works."
