Good cultivator - beware sleeve hitch requirement

May 24, 2010
from Wilson, NY
"The cultivator itself seems well built and was easy to assemble. The center bolt that is designed for between-row cultivating is not long enough to install the tine and the special spacer washer that comes with it, so I'll either have to get a longer bolt or leave out the washer.
The biggest challenge is that I underestimated the sleeve hitch requirement. I thought that it simply required a "hole" type connection to my garden tractor or ATV but after I got it and saw the instructions I realized that a sleeve hitch is a very special attachment for ground engaging equipment. The sleeve hitch is not included, and is about $180 for a garden tractor (make sure it is capable of pulling ground-engaging equipment), and it is almost impossible to find for an ATV or any kind - the only one I found is about $450 (for electric operated - couldn't find any manual hitches).
So, good product, but make sure you've thoroughly researched the sleeve hitch requirement and you've budgeted for it.

"I try to review products before I buy them and this cultivator seemed to work well. I agree the center bolt is too short ( left out washer). This product is easy to assemble and worked terrific. The ground I used it on was very firm and it tore it up well. I used it on an old field after I killed the weeds and it was easily cultivated. I did not use a hitch, I just hooked it to my Simplicity garden tractor. Very easy. You would need a hitch if you want to lift it up, but the cultivator is lite enough to move around,. cheaper than spending $550.00 for a hitch. I am going to make a cart to move it to the work area, but I did easily carry it to the spot where I needed to rough up. The product was sturdy and did the job easily. I would stongly recommend and for the price worked very well. Also it was a lot cheaper here than the tractor store, and I had it quicker than they told me 2 weeks, I had it in 5 days. Great product! Thank You."
