ALC Medium Glass Bead Blasting Abrasive - 25 Lbs.

Item# S1586
Glass beads are manufactured from lead-free, soda lime-type glass, containing no free silica. Glass bead blasting produces a clean, bright, satin finish, without dimensional change of the parts. Glass beads are primarily used in blasting cabinets for honing, polishing, peening, blending, finishing, removing light burrs and cleaning light foreign matter. Is also widely used for glass etching projects where a smooth finish is desired. For delicate thin-walled parts and thin welds, peening with glass bead abrasive material provides the right balance of stress relief without over-stressing and causing damage. Glass bead can be reclaimed and is most likely to be used in a blast cabinet. Best uses paint & coating removal, surface preparation, removes carbon, rust, and corrosion from aluminum and steel and glass etching. A light, low-dust abrasive. U.S.A. Weight lbs. 25, Grade M, Recyclable Yes, Material Type Glass beads.

"I'm using the glass bead media and have had good results. It does create quite a bit of dust, but a shop vac hose in the supplied port keeps the work space clean. I haven't tried a coarser material yet, but plan to with something heavier later on to remove mill scale a bit faster."

"I use this in my blast cabinet to remove rust and paint off of old auto parts. Work very fast and leaves a small rough surface perfect for paint. Makes cast parts look new. Not recommended if you want to maintain a mirror surface on aluminum. Seems to last forever - I've never had to replace the media."

"I tried this before I switched to aluminum oxide, seems to work pretty good. It didnt cut as fast as the AO did, but if you're worried about warping or pitting the metal, might wanna give this a try first."

"when i bought my blaster at n/t i thought it would just be a once in a while thing. i used sand when i was getting used to the blaster but then i came upon some searous fine and detailed work that needed something other than dirt.i looked in my catalog and found the glass bead abrasive. this stuff was like a invisable hand that could get into anywhere. i did not know how important it was to use the proper blasting materials until i used this product, not just once but over and over again."
